Troop elections

A new forum member, TheFourGuardians, has just been elected SPL and his message got me to wondering about the election cycles in other troops. In our troop, we elect officers for 6-month terms; elections are in March and September and the new officers are inducted at our Spring and Autumn CoHs.

We elect for one year terms. For our troop, our events take alot of planning and we found it better that one person do that instead of 2 people. (ie plan an event in September that takes place in June).

 

We also elect a special Summer Camp SPL.

We do the same as www_Dan. We have also elected a separate high adventure crew leader who helps with long term planning for a high adventure activity.

I've been acssociated with troops that have held elections every 6 months, and others have held them annually.

Generally about six months.

I'm wondering if 12 months works best in smallish troops (where there may be fewer candidates each year) and 6 months works better in larger units (where there are lots of fellows needing PORs)
