howarthe
I think the public expects scout (or former scouts) to do the right thing even when it is very inconvenient or impractical, such as every time a character in the movies or on television complains that so-and-so is SUCH a boy scout. Basementdweller
Unselfish giving....... Our CO is a food bank and houses a free store.....standing on the porch chatting after a meeting.....Had a lady pull up and said she needed gas money to get home. SM, DL and I said we didn't have any to give......She demanded we give her money and that every time she has come to the church someone has given her money.... Her parting comment was she thought scouts would help her out and instead they are just a bunch of f'in a'holes..... I don't take my wallet to the meetings because of the location.... CalicoPenn
Basement - great story - I think sometimes we forget how the publics expectations of us lead to negative interactions like this one. I think we assume any negative interaction we'll get is because our Scouts are being way to rambunctious (thous the groans and eyerolls when Scouts pull into rest stops) but never consider that someone will be mad if we don't give them help they expect to be able to get rom us, even if we can't oblige.
