Lisabob
Just to clarify, in the last 3 years the SPLs in my son's current troop were all in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. My son was SPL in his former troop as a 10th grader. So I did not mean to suggest that older boys can't be active (as SPL you need to be able to commit to a very active scouting schedule. If you can't, then you shouldn't seek to be SPL, in my view.) But not all boys have the time or desire to be SPL and live & breathe scouting, despite enjoying their time in scouting. And even for those boys, what about AFTER they're SPL?
fred8033
Link failed because I punctuated the sentence with a period. Try it without a period in the URL. http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/33088.pdf Page 21.
emb021
"And even for those boys, what about AFTER they're SPL?" For a lot of these boys, its things like leadership within NYLT, Lodge/Chapter leadership, maybe even OA Sectional leadership.
SSScout
Is there Scoutlife after SPL? Oh, woe is me. I've been SPL, what to I do for an encore? Hopefully, the Scout's skills would allow himm to serve as Troop Guide or Instructor. He could be a PL, or Quartermaster who KNOWS how it should be done.Or Bugler! Let's not let the boy dissappear into early retirement, encourage him to make the Troop a better place to Scout.
eisely
For those of age sixteen, there is also the position of Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. I have seen young men perform this role very effectively.
