moosetracker
Seriously Terry, If what you see is all we could come up with on a wish list, then this site has done us fine.. Half of this post is playing with the newly discovered format link anyway! Hmm.. tried the format link for first time at home (other time it was at work).. It shows the "http://www.scouter.com/htmleditor/editor_popup.html" with a broken icon and I can't hit it to run it.. Toy doesn't work from home Anyway, something new to play with may be exciting! John-in-KC
Terry, as always, thanks for a long history of a free (and mostly technically clean) site. (This message has been edited by John-in-KC)
Tampa Turtle
I for one really enjoy the "bad idea T-shirt" ads. Though I never click as it may be a bad idea. The fulsome pulchritude is a unexpected pick-me-up.
CalicoPenn
I also add my thanks and appreciation to Scouter Terry for this wonderful forum. I find it very user friendly and it's aged very well. So it isn't "state of the art" - but does it have to be? Remember "New Coke"? Don't we have comments on this forum all the time complaining about the 1970's "improved scouting"? Haven't we been hearing folks bemoaning "soccer scouting", and the so-called emphasis on "indoor scouting"? Remember the new and improved Netflix announced this past summer, which was quickly reverted back? How many times has Facebook made changes and tweaks only to tweak it back? Aren't those just all examples of fixing something that wasn't broken? Just a thought. That said, if Scouter Terry wants to make changes because HE wants to make changes, it's his toy to play with as he sees fit - and we'll all enjoy it just as much. skeptic
Yes, I add my thanks to Terry too. Have watched a number of boards come and go, and this one works pretty well for the most part. And have gotten some good info on occasion, and a lot of entertainment.
shortridge
Tossing in my appreciation as well. Plus I love the site as it works now. It's easy on the eyes and simple to use. That's a great combination.
SR540Beaver
Just like the others, I thank Terry for making this site available. Evidently some of you folks do not inhabit any other boards on the interwebs. Moving to vbulletin software is a wonderful thing. That is what many, many forums use and when set up properly, it is a wonderful thing. I'm glad Terry has decided to make the move. I think everyone will be pleased when it happens. I know I will. moosetracker
I frequent other forums.. Some spiffy, some not so spiffy.. I just don't know what is running them.. Any examples you know of a a vbulletin board?? The spiffy Barnes & Nobel Board I am being spoiled by says "Powered by Lithium", but since that's a type of battery, I don't know what that means... SR540Beaver
Just google "powered by vbulletin". That's how I got these examples. It is probably the most popular forum software in use. It is highly configurable in the way it looks and what features you can turn on. In short, you can set it up to have avatar pictures, signatures, post pictures and videos, quote function for the post you are responding to, a thanks button for post you like, a positive/negative rep system, private messages, etc. Just depends on the person running the board and what features they want to use and how much server space they have. http://www.usmessageboard.com/ http://www.performancetrucks.net/forums/ http://www.trekbbs.com/ http://www.conceptart.org/forums/ http://www.thehighroad.org/ Here is their actual site. https://www.vbulletin.com/(This message has been edited by sr540beaver)
moosetracker
Ohhh.. Terry one of the examples SR540Beaver had was the colors of brown on brown.. Yuck!! Please don't do anything like that!! Remember some us old foggies have problems locating the computer, let alone see the characters!!! Otherwise, now that I have seen a few, I know I have seen those in alot of places! Tampa Turtle
I have used some of those boards and admit they are pretty nifty...however I have no idea if they are easier/harder to maintain or more/less vulnerable to bad stuff. I am just an end user and grateful if it works, don't have to think too much about it, and don't have to pay for it somehow. But good comments. I think the strong points of the current setup is it seems pretty stable and search works pretty well. Weak points are it is harder to follow new posts on a thread and keep a sort preference. But what do I know. Years ago I chucked my early-adopter PDA for 3x5 cards.
