The definition of the Adult Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster

I would like to know what most consider to be the working description of the Adult Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters.

In BSA there is no position of "Adult Scoutmaster." The Scoutmaster's primary function is to teach leadership skills to the youth leaders. The assistant Scoutmasters (note the lower case "a") assist the Scout master as needed.

Contrary to what was posted above, The Scoutmaster has several responsibilities, with the primary or chief responsibility as the Scoutmaster handbook states, is establishing an environment that is safe for Scouts both physically and psychologically.

The scoutmaster leads scouts to lead other scouts. It's all about teaching leadership and life skills. I am a scoutmaster, and to post the job description here would be very lengthy. But, to put it in a nutshell, it's teaching your scouts how to lead other scouts.

I'd say it's teaching kids to make ethical choices by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
