Introduction and offer

Recommended Posts

Hello scouts! My first post here, we are always looking for worthy organizations to promote products and I spent several summers of my own youth as a scout in Michigan (many many years ago!) so I thought the scouts would be perfect! (This message has been edited by a staff member.)

The forums do not market products within the threads so this does go against the normal rules.

Therefore unless there is an objection from the forums, I (or another moderator) will soon close this thread.

Edit to add: I can edit or delete individual messages but evidently the ability to hide or close a thread is not working (and I have tried) so I have removed references to other units and to the original website. (This message has been edited by a staff member.)

Hate to be a wet blanket, but....

Guide to Safe Scouting http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/34416.pdf

Page 33, "Unauthorized and Restricted Activities"

6. Fireworks secured, used, or displayed in conjunction with

program and activities is unauthorized except where the

fireworks display is conducted under the auspices of a

certified or licensed fireworks control expert.

7. The selling of fireworks as a fund-raising or money earning

activity by any group acting for or on behalf of

members, units, or districts may not be authorized by

councils.

I believe similar language is on the Unit Money-Earning Applications, however the online version I found doesn't not include page two where the restrictions are found.

Twocub, the above product is merely a metal-containing chemical that, when added to an existing fire, imparts a color to the flames. It isn't technically fireworks although I would be concerned about the fact that heavy metals are being distributed into the environment. In any case, as soon as I can I'm going to close this.

PackSaddle is correct, there are no pyrotechnic compounds in Campfire Blue, it's not even close to being a firework which is why it is legal to ship via any method including US mail and as I mentioned it can be a great teaching tool and an avenue to interest kids in chemistry among other things.

I wasn't aware and am somewhat saddened learning of the Scout's stance on fireworks, what greater American Tradition is there than BBQ, fireworks and the 4th of July? Almost 100% of injuries are caused by Misuse, just like fire arms education is the key, not eradication.

If you want to play the pollution / environmental card the amount of Campfire Blue used will NEVER equal the harmful emmisions of one vehicle. In the past decade, 90% of laws regarding fireworks have changed to support their use and more Americans can legally use them today then in the past.

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks to those of you who have emailed support and appreciation, I hope the recipients of the free gifts enjoy them even if not used at a sanctioned scouting event.

On another note...it's warm outside! Bring on spring.
