Webeloree Events

Recommended Posts

Just wnated to get a few things from the campfire here. We have our Webeloree coming up soon and we have a few events planned already but I was wondering what some of you thought that we should have for the webelos.

Here is what we are thinking and what we have already.

This event is less advancment based and more scout skills based. Showing the boys the things that they will get to do in boy scouts. So they have an idea on what to expect

So far we have the following ideas

- First Aid

- Ropes, knots and Lashings (What would you suggest we make)

- Fire Building

- LNT introduction

We also have a campfire on Saturday Night and if units want it a crossing over.

There is also a trasding post that a venture crew has volunteered to help us with and Scouts Religious service on Sunday.

Is there anything that we are missing. We may have the availability of 4 - 6 stations and a field games area. we are trying to make sure that we have enough youth to staff the areas.

What are your thoughts.

I've had success with lashing together a flagpole and then pounding in stakes to set it up. When completed, Scout organize a flag ceremony and Pledge of Allegiance.

This could be done teaching the round lashing and taught line hitch, or just the round lashing, leaving the taught line hitches in place.

Building a fire and cooking a pancake and ham is popular at our Klondike Derby.

And of course a contest to build a fire and see who can burn through a string is always popular.

Find someone with a good sized block and tackle, a four fall with at least 3/4 " rope would be good, and hold a tug o' war between Scouts and Adults. First, do a single rope type. Then, use the Block and Tackle. Have fun with leetle Scouts pulling Big Scouters...

Hold a Whitlin' Chip class, you can find curriculum on this site, or elsewhere in internetland. Make sure your Scouts leading the class emphasize "tool, not toy" and then they sign a small certifying slip that the Cub can hand to his Cubmaster for the award of the WC badge. Lots of soap bars and soap chips left over!

Look up the Temple of Hanoi Ring puzzle, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_of_Hanoi ,

only make it human size, with posts sunk in the ground and tires of suitable sizes. Maybe only four tires?

A Scavenger Hunt over the whole camp. They obtain it when they check in, and take it with them as they hike thru the activities.
