ozemu
You can't - until the fullness of time has passed. Sorry. But when they are NOT Scouts; how many are in jail, happily married, career successful, contributing community members etc? I have been surprised. But only time can tell. What happens with young adults is not a fair assessemnt - it is about the choices that they make after they fly the coop. Today you can only 100% know for sure that we are all whittling away at the same peices of wood - trying to find the grain beneath and following it to a piece of art or utilitarian tool. Wish I could give a more immediate indicator.
Buffalo Skipper
Thanks much ozemu. I was really hoping someone would reach past the obvious and look in that direction. Well put.
Eamonn
While I agree with my pal from down-under (Great to have you back!!) I kinda think that when looking at success we need to what we are looking at. I can look back at the 17th Fulham (Pioneers) and hark back to how great it once was, all the great kids and great adults. I can talk about the long history it had. But it's not there any more. I can look at the Troop OJ was in,at that time one of the best in our area with about 40 Scouts and a wonderful leadership team. But the SM moved on and the Troop went into a decline. Now it has about 8 Scouts who are all Life Scouts. I feel once they make Eagle the Troop will fold. I can look at a Troop that only started about seven or eight years back, seem to do everything by the book, the SM is moving on and the transition seems to be going ahead with little or no change to the youth that are in the Troop. Just about every Troop goes through Peaks and Valleys. I can't help thinking the mark of a successful troop lies not in what it has done in the past but what it will do in the future. Eamonn. Gunny2862
Sorry, I can't get it under two... Youth who lead...and Adults who mentor, vice: instruct, boss, berate, instigate, micromanage. Really like the above answers too.
acco40
From the perspective of the ... Scout Executive - number of registered youth and adults Scoutmaster - leadership qualities of the SPL & PLs Parents - how will you make sure my son "gets" Eagle? Scout - am I having fun? Commissioner - did it meet the Centennial Award goals?
