kwilde54
Hello all, I live in the Los Angeles Ca. area, back in the 1970's and early 80's there was a Boy Scout Troup Sponcered by Schaefer' Ambulance Co., whom I worked for as a EMT / Paramedic, this Troup at Different times would use a Boy Scout Camp North of Los Angeles, and would be teach First Aid to Boy Scout and Cub Scouts For a First Aid Badge, Sometime I would help in these training these kids, it would be a 2 day training, with a disaster sometime during the night, and the kids would be in charge to save the day and be graded on this. But after the years have past and I have lost contact with Troup and do not remember their name I thought I would ask here, who at that time they was being a up and growing Boy Scout they went through it and possible mite know where I go from here
Trevorum
Hello Kwilde! A worth quest! I grew up in Mission Hills and remember "Operation Preparedness" which was disaster preparation with simulated victims needing first aid, etc. I remember all that fake blood! It was cool! I think it was 1968 which would have been a bit before the time you're thinking about. Don't remember any unit sponsored by an ambulance company, but chartering organizations were pretty incidental to us kids. I think your best bet would be to contact the local council and make inquiries there. The Los Angeles Area Council is still in existence by the same name (goto http://www.boyscoutsla.org/), but the old San Fernando Valley Council (which served your current location of Northridge) merged and is now called the Western Los Angeles County Council (goto http://www.bsa-la.org/). Good luck!
kwilde54
I did ask the Van Nuys Area Branch office they put something in their monthly paper but nothing came back, the leaders where BSA also GSA, they did it 3 or4 4 times a year so they could get their First aid bages, we used the blood and fake broken bones, but this BSA Leader was doing this long before I went to work for Schaefers Ambulance possible back in late 60's
