SWScouter
A new troop is being started here in a juvenile detention facility/school. It was chartered as Troop 420. Turns out 420 is part of the dopers' subculture: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/420_(cannabis_culture) Not the best unit number for this troop considering the background of a lot of the members. The unit number is being changed. Just for fun, what other numbers should avoided when assigning unit numbers? SWScouter
SWScouter
Oh, the wikipedia link includes '(cannabis_culture)' so you'll need to paste that into your browser.
local1400
I am going to beat that musical genius, O.G.E., and say ONE. According to Three Dog Night, " ONE IS THE LONELIEST NUMBER THAT YOU'LL EVER KNOW".
GernBlansten
Ever been a unit number 666?
Cubmaster Randy
Local 1400 I don't see anything wrong with Troop 1. Many of us are members of Troop 1, Gilwell
CNYScouter
Ever been a unit number 666? ( I have seen an Explorer Post near here with that number. I've seen it on an "Adopt-a-Highway" sign so I don't know what the Post does.
GernBlansten
There is a Troop 1 in Denver. Supposably the first troop established west of the mississippi. There is also a Troop 69 in Boulder. Not that there's anything wrong with that! I think an Firefighter Explorer Post 911 would be appropriate. Or a Venture crew 411 who's charter is just looking for information. GernBlansten
Oh dear, I used the google. Seems there is a troop 666, and it has a dark history. http://theawarenesscenter.org/schwartz_jerrold.html
Cubmaster Randy
I googled Troop 666. Other troops came up too. Looks like Mike Walton was in one in Fort Knox KY. I'd stay clear of it though, would not get much support from most of the potential CO's here in GA..
OldGreyEagle
There was a New York City Troop 666 in the news a few years back due to an abuse situation so it happens. I saw a Troop 666 at the 2001 National Jamboree. I would love to be a member of Troop/Pack/Crew 1910, and I would always be sure to have lots of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit with me Then again contemplate being a member of Troop 38, Special memories would be plentiful especially if you got to hang on loosely
GernBlansten
And now for something completely obscure.... A soccer varsity crew 66, you can get your kicks in crew 66. A patrol named the Dr. Peppers in Troop 1024. A troop 247 sponsored by a convienence store, this troop never sleeps. A computer hobby venture crew 10100100. Troop 42, who calculate the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. Thank you very much, I'm here all week, tip your waitress and try the veal. OldGreyEagle
I guess Troop 25 or 624 would have to be from Chicago
Gags
666 is our neighboring troop. I believe it was from a combination of two previous troops - 6 and 66. There is also something about the name of an old local deli (Double 6? 6:00 Deli?), but how a local landmark affects a Council's troop numbering scheme is beyond me. Naturally, with such a number, it has a church as its CO. (Perhaps to "keep an eye on it"? Conspiracy theories abound...)
Cubmaster Randy
I must be moved away too long from Chicago, I don't get the Troop 25 or 624 from Chicago. Maybe 9094 makes more sense,
frank10
CM Randy: it's the band not the place (25 or 6 to 4:00) SWScouter: I'd stay away from 9, 22 38, 357 or any other good gun number. Might also avoid 8 (8-ball- drug term) and the always unlucky 13. 404 (not found) might not exactly be it either.
