Eamonn
I do have: A Queens Scout Award, A Wood Badge, District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver,International Scouters Award, James E. West, OA Vigil Honor and a bunch of other awards.By this time next year I hope to add Sea Badge to the bunch. Some of these I did work toward. The Award of Merit,Silver Beaver and Vigil Honor were all unexpected. I was and am proud of them. It has been stated that I might be guilty of running for political accolades from my voting peers? What are these political accolades? Eamonn
local1400
Eamonn, I dunno but I think "P.A." may be the long hours and hard work and all the sacrifices you AND your family have done/made to learn how to improve your program and bring the very best to the scouts who deserve it. But I'm only speculating. Local.
MarkS
Isn't the Queens Scout Award a Girl Scout award? You shouldn't be able to count that one... Vote disqualified. ;-)(This message has been edited by MarkS)
hops_scout
Mark, "Queen's Scout Award" is the English award similar to that of an Eagle Scout. See our dear friend Eamonn is originally from Great Britain, and you can tell by his accent when you talk to him in person;)
evmori
Eamonn, Some people think those who earn lots of awards are doing it for themselves. They don't realize that those awards are for hours & hours of training & hards work. I, too, have received the District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver & Vigil Honor and all were unexpected and a surprise since everything I was doing was for my Scouts, family, church & community. scoutldr
I have one...how about the DE who is selected for OA and within 2 years is sporting a Vigil sash? All they did was serve as Staff Advisor to the Lodge, which is in their job description. I can think of other Scouters who have dedicated decades of time at the unit level who would be more deserving of a high honor. Double standards? As far as the JE West Fellowship, I am a firm believer that it should not be allowed to be "purchased" by the recipient. It makes a fine award to bestow on a Scouter, but only if done by someone else. If you want to donate money, fine, and bless you for your donation. As a very young scout, my SM told me, "do a good turn daily, but if you brag about it, it doesn't count."
Eamonn
scoutldr Take a look at: http://www.scoutingmagazine.org/issues/0009/d-news.html (Scroll down about half way) Not everyone donates to receive a James E.West. I in fact have two. One that was bought with money raised from the golf outing a friend of mine organizes and one that I paid for when I was upset with how the Council was managing finances.
