"Eagle on His Chest" Scout Song

BSAT17SPL

Recommended Posts

For years I attended Goose Pond Scout Reservation in Pennsylvania, as a scout and always enjoyed myself. I especially enjoyed Wednesday night campfires and listening to a councilor's "Eagle on his Chest" song which he played on his guitar to honor all scouts who made Eagle Scout in that week.

After many years of hard work I have obtained my Eagle Scout and am planning my court of honor.

I am looking for this song whether it be in words or in recorded form.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot for those who help.

It may have been this song, the tune is to the Ballad of the Green Berets

Ballad of an Eagle Scout

Hiking Scouts go marching by,

Cheerful boys who laugh and cry,

Boys who mean just what they say,

Make them Eagles all some day.

Silver wings upon their chests,

These are boys, America's best,

One hundred boys will join the troop,

But only three in the Eagle group.

Trained to live off nature's land,

Taught to build, and lend a hand,

Boys who learn by nature's call,

Courage from the Oath and Law.

Silver wings upon their chests,

These are boys, America's best,

One hundred boys will join the troop,

But only three in the Eagle group.

Back at home a young mom waits,

Her Scout is set to review his fate,

He has just to pass this test,

Leaving her this one request:

Put silver wings on my son's chest,

Make him one of America's best,

He'll be a man they'll test him out,

Have him be an Eagle Scout

Mucho Congrats. I'm sorry I don't know your song. You have contacted the camp, of course?

You will remember this time later, (perhaps MUCH later) in your life as a true high point. You will also be pleasently surprised at how what you have learned along the way in Scouts is useful to you and indirectly to those around you at odd times.

Oh, and don't forget the shoe box. You know, the one to put all the old patches and badges in. The one your grandkid will find in the back of your closet and drag out to ask "granddad, whats all this old stuff?"

As you stride along life's trail, don't forget to hold that tree branch back for the fellow coming up behind you. Wouldn't want him to get hit with it.

YiS.

Then again it may have been this:

(Chorus )

Put eagle wings

On my sons Chest

Make him one

Of Americas best

He'll be a man

They will test one day

Raise him up

In the Boy Scout Way

Mothers don't you worry none

For he's out there having fun

Learning things he needs to know

That will help him out

And help him grow

(chorus )

Fathers you can help us to

Just show your sons

What they Should do

Help them grow to be a man

Just reach out

Give them your Hand

(chorus )

Back at home the family waits

Their Eagle Scout has made the grade

He has passed his final test

Making him one

Of America's best

Put Eagle Wings

On my sons chest

Make him one of America's best

He'll be a man

They will test one day

Raise him up in the Boy Scout Ways

(much slower)

Raise him up

In the Boy Scout Ways

Sems a little odd that the same person asks the same question 2 years later?

"Eagle Scout Song

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the past couple of years at my summer camp one of the councilors would call all the Eagle scouts up to the front of the fire bowl and he would play a song on his guitar,"Eagle on his Chest", is how it went, but I don't know the name of the song or who wrote it. So, if any of you know of it or know where I can get it I would really appreaciate it, I really like the song.

You are definately correct that I did indeed ask this same question two years prior, however two years ago I was not an Eagle scout and just inquiring about the song.

New members join and old members leave. I figured that if I asked the question again I may get a different answer, but I guess not.

Eagle On His Chest

By Mike Huneke

Recording by Tom Meier

G D C

His plans are already made.

G D C

Today he will stand upon that stage,

G D

With his mother and father by his side

Em D

Hell take an oath with pride

C D

Hell promise to always give his best

C D G

And then theyll pin and eagle on his chest

And all the boys will watch them call his name.

And to them he will never be the same.

His words will inspire, fill them with desire

A hero stands before the rest,

Because he wears and eagle on his chest.

C D

And hes a leader of tomorrow,

G Em

Standing here today.

C D

And he learned about integrity

G Em

Somewhere along the way.

C D

And if you ask him why he lives like this

G Em

You know that he will say

C D G

Its because he wears and eagle on his chest.

C D G

Because he wears an eagle on his chest.

Instrumental verse.

A couple years have passed since that day.

And beside him now stands his protg.

Hes a boy with inspiration

He knows his destination.

He wants to rise above the rest

He wants to wear an eagle on his chest.

Now his plans are already made.

Someday he will stand upon that stage.

With his mother and father by his side,

Hell take an oath with pride.

Hell say the words just like the rest,

And then theyll pin an eagle on his chest.

And they are leaders of tomorrow,

Standing here today.

And they learned about integrity

Somewhere along the way.

And if you ask them why they live like this

You know that they will say

Its because we wear and eagle on our chests.

Because they wear an eagle on their chests,

And they will always wear and eagle on their chests.

Good job SPL. SSScouter mentions the shoebox of your treasures. Hopefully, you will continue in scouting and the shoebox turns into a steamer trunk! Just because you have earned your Eagle dont let that be the end of your scouting legacy. Teach and encourage the ones who will follow you.

I have and I don't know where it came from a CD, which has a picture of a very old and very rusty farm tractor, the type with metal wheels. It is titled:Broad Creek Memories. The Disk only has two songs, one is Broad Creek Memories, the other is: The Eagle On His Chest.Music & Lyrics by Mike Huneke, who also sings the two songs. Produced by:Bleu Jay Productions.
