Narraticong
I am currently a Webelos 2 Den Leader in a top notch Pack. The Pack is chartered to the parent / teacher organization at our elementary school. Next spring I will be starting a new troop which will be chartered to a local church. The other leaders in the Pack would like to see our new troop be a continuation for the boys and have the same number. Are there any national policies on the same number being used by different charter organizations?
EagleInKY
No, but your council has rules. Ours will hold a number for a period of time after a unit folds, in case they are able to get it restarted. Generally, if the number is available in your council, you can have it. If someone else has it, your out of luck.
scoutmom111
We were told that the chartered organization holds the number wheither it is for a pack, troop or crew. We planned to have a crew 111, (we are troop 111) and we were told that we must have the same chartered org. It is always interesting to see the different rules in different councils... and how they always fall back by saying it is nationals decision **smile**
t158sm
Our pack and troop have the same number but have always had different chartered organizations. Many others around here are the same way. So much for it being national policy (This message has been edited by t158sm)
CNYScouter
My district has there is a Pack, Troop and Crew with the same number and all three have a different CO, but are in the same town. The CO for the Pack my son was in also chartered a Troop. They both have different numbers.
Beagle Scout
For continuity sake, could you just add another digit in front of your current unit number? For example, if your pack is Pack 234, your new troop number could be 1234.
Cubmaster Randy
You can always ask your DE Does the church (CO) care what number you get? In our district we currently have three different scenarios. Some of our CO's have a pack and troop and a possibly crew with the same numbers. Some of the CO's units have totally different numbers, that are not even close to each other. We even have a pack with the same number as a troop and they are on opposite sides of town with different CO's Talk about confusing
Narraticong
I posed the question to our DE and he got back to me last night. It seems that in our council it is not a problem. And in fact, he will hold the number for us until we charter in the Spring!
