OneHour
To all of my fellow SHAC scouts and scouters, stay safe and best of luck through this disaster. Last night, we left Houston. We were averaging 5mph on I10 heading West. From the looks of things ... it doesn't look any better today. 1Hour

Kahuna
Best of luck to you and all in the path this storm. It seems to have diminished in strength a bit, let's hope it continues to do so.

OneHour
After an all night drive, my family and I got to San Marcos, a 9 hours drive that should have only taken 2.5. For the most part, the exodus was very orderly. I would say that we average 5-10 mph on I10 all the way until I exited hwy 80. There were so many people stopped along the way because of tired, out of gas, or just got fed up. I talked to one of our scoutmasters, he and his family gave up and returned home after moving 2 miles in two hours. Whereever this thing lands, god speeds. 1Hour
Greying Beaver
I am also from Sam Houston Area Council. Lat night we left Houston at midnight headed for College Station, normally a 90-minute trip. Just under four hours(!) later we pulled into C.S. We waited for the traffic to clear out along the evacuation routes. A four-lane divided highway does not an evacuation route make. The governor ordered gasoline tank trucks loaded with gasoline to give - yes, give(!) motorists who has run out of gas 10 gallons of gasoline to get them going again instead of being stranded on the side of the road. My son quit counting cars thaqt had pulled over at just over 300 - about half-way between Houston and C.S. It rememded me of John Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath". This just in . . . . The New Orleans levies have broken again . . . . . this reported feels very fortunate indeed.
Kahuna
I just saw the pics of N.O. flooding again. Bummer! The Hurricane Center (or NOAA) guy was just saying it looks as if the sea wall at Galveston will hold, but it's still going to be a major disaster. Again, good luck to all affected. Greying Beaver
Arrived home 3.30 p.m. Saturday. Power on. Trees up. Cats out(left them in the house for safekeeping). Only three hours to get back to Houston after taking side roads. No gasoline. No grocery stores open (They are now.). Beaumont, Port Authur, and Cameron LA hardest hit with flooding. Knider LA (big casino there) also flooded. On the bright side, Gran'ma and I had all four grandchildren together under one roof. The kid is off school until Wednesday. Cutest BobWhite and I are back to work tomorrow. Cousin who lives outside of Ruston LA has a great idea: Reform New Orleans into the Venice of the Swamp; Piroques instead of gondolas; "Jole' Blon" instead of Italian arias. Maybe . . . . OneHour
We got back 7:00 am on Sunday. Okay, so I didn't listen to the Houston's laidout plan. It took us 3 hours in the backroads from San Marcos to Houston. It was a nice drive at 4:00 am. It's funny to listen to all of the "Monday morning quarterbacks." All that they have to do is to look at the devastations at the small towns between Tx/LA border! If I can come home and say ... "that wasn't bad," then I am very lucky! I'd leave again if I had to. With me were the four most valuable things in my life, my wife and my three boys. My sincere prayers and very best wishes to all those who were affected by Rita or Katrina. 1Hour
