KirkGinn
I am new to the Houston area. I am looking for any ideas for the boys high advendute this summer. We were hoping for white water rafting. The last two years they have gone to colorado to hike and also to a venture camp close to Bridgeport TX. Do any of yall have some ideas that are amazing? Mike F
KirkGinn, Welcome to Houston! Unfortunately, you're going to have to travel for the really good stuff. We had a crew raft the Rio Grande in Big Bend a few years ago. They used a private outfitter and had a great time. If you don't want to travel so far, there's also some pretty good white water canoeing to be had on the Guadalupe River upstream of Canyon Lake, but check into the local SHAC requirements - leaders must have completed approved flat water and white water canoe training. You can go through training offered through Strake or check out Goose Creek Canoe Clinic at http://www.canoeclinic.com/. See you round the campfire sometime! -mike
eagle90
Laguna Station on South Padre Island offers a good, diverse High Adventure program at a reasonable price. Everything from surfing, fishing, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, and more! DALE
Mike F
Dale, How could I have left off Laguna Station!?!?! (http://www.lagunastation.org/) That's my old home council - Rio Grande Council. I haven't taken a crew there, yet, but recent reports from 4 other local troops were all very positive. We'll be getting down there in the next year or two. -mike
