H2Ocaveman
Anyone seen the new uniforms? On the scoutshop blog dated March 1. Guess they saw how much the old ones were going for on E-bay. "The new Performance Uniform Shirts are designed to meet the demands of modern Scouting. Crafted from a unique blend of 93% polyester and 7% elastane, these shirts offer an exceptional level of comfort and flexibility. Whether you're navigating challenging trails or engaging in leadership activities, these shirts have you covered." Eagle94-A1
I think I will keep my old uniform. Pants, hat, socks, and basic insignia ( world crest, ring, and WRONG (emphasis) council patch is $120. Can't get a shirt on the uniform builder.

skeptic
A bit of a reach, but cotton is not the best choice often. Modern wicking type materials are generally a better choice. On the other hand, a uniform worn for formal and indoor use is fine, though they likely could simply use all the modern materials and then have no issue. For info; Here is an article that quantifies the heat loss effects of cotton, polyester and polypropylene: Rossi et al., Dry and Wet Heat Transfer Through Clothing Dependent on the Clothing Properties Under Cold Conditions, International Journal of Occupational Safety and Ergonomics (JOSE) 2008, Vol. 14, No. 1, 69–76.
cgail
I don't plan to wear it on an OPKIK trek.. Frankly, I don't know anyone who wears a uniform during camp Alaska other than the commissioners. Most leaders around here only wear uniforms for indoor events period. Anything outdoor is gear of the own preference. I've seen all the studies as well, but in my experience they just don't add up. With "performance" gear I'm hot in the summer and cold in the winter. There is a reason natural fabrics have worked for years. Cotton and wool for me. If I wanted to wear something that will melt, I'd use trash bags - much more economical. Besides - remember when polyester took off? The 70s.. Do we really want to go back there? In the southeast cotton is not the best for summer. I think a cotton shirt would be great for a "dress uniform" but not very practical for summer camp flags. InquisitiveScouter
11 hours ago, cgail said: Argh! Cotton... what is wrong with cotton? - Cotton doesn't kill.... wet cotton kills (in cold weather) Cotton has an affinity for water (hydrophilic), and is therefore difficult to dry. It does not wick away moisture, buts holds it, and therein lies the problem in cold weather. Makes a great towel for that reason, though! - Cotton shrinks (but can be pre-shrunk) - Cotton wrinkles (ironing, anyone?) - I love cotton, in hot weather 😜 Edited March 29 by InquisitiveScouter

Lost a buncha weight (yay) so needed a new shirt. No more of those, bought the cotton one. Miserable. Just awful. I mean it looks good. You can really crisp it up with the iron, but wearing it in FL is rough. So hot. Just soaks up the sweat around the neck and pits and stays super moist. Strong excitement about the re-introduction of performance options except I suspect it'll take our council shop years to cycle through current stock to where it is available locally and I like... JUST bought this cotton one so will have to stick with it for now. Hot and gross as it is.
swilliams
My boys like the old-ish uniforms. Not the old canvas pants and cotton shirts, and not the stuff they started offering when the branding switched - where the shirt just says 'BSA'. The shirt is some sort of synthetic or synthetic blend, as are the pants, but there isn't any lycra or spandex in them. Two gripes are that the pants are ill-fitting (but that has always been the case, regardless of version) and they tear/wear a little too easily. When everything changed the last time, I scooped up two shirts and a pair of pants. I did end up having to buy a second pair of pants off eBay. Don't know if we'll need one of the two shirts. I might be willing to part with a shirt that says "Boy Scouts of America" above the pocket if anyone is interested. 😂
rallybug
Fine and dandy seeing the blog post about it, but then not following up with any more information a month later is annoying, but I suppose par for the course...

curious_scouter
they are/were available on scoutshop.org. I did break down and buy one to see it in person and have plans to work it up into a new uniform using old interesting patches off ebay.
