Current Registration

When I turned 18 I registered at an ASM with my troop. Now I am in college, and I have been working with a local troop here for a few months. Do I need to register with this new unit, or is my first registration (still current) sufficient?

You should register with this new unit as well. This will be considered a "dual membership", thus no charge for the second registration. This will last until your home troop recharters. If your home troop recharters you in their unit, you can continue this process for next year. If your home troop chooses to not recharter you, you'll need to register and pay through this new unit.

No reflection on you OAEagleDude but no unit should accept anyone as a leader without knowing for sure that person is registered, just standard youth protection. Registration policies are the first point of youth protection.

All leaders serve at the pleasure of the Chartering Organization. If you are serving a local troop while at college, the CO needs to know about it and officially approve your involvement...this is done via an Adult Leader Application, which the CC and COR must sign. As was said, since you are already registered with BSA, there will be no additional fee, but I believe that registering with the new troop is not optional, if you are to be a "regular".
