Bugling MB | Allowed instruments

"If Bugling be the food of Scouting, play on !

Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting,

The appetite may sicken, and so die.

That Bugle call again! it had a dying fall:

O, it came o'er my ear like the sweet south,

That breathes upon a bank of camp tents,,,

Stealing and giving odour! Enough; no more:

'Tis not so sweet now as it was before.

O spirit of Scouting ! how quick and fresh art thou,

That, notwithstanding thy capacity

Receiveth as the sea, nought enters there,

Of what validity and pitch soe'er,

But falls into abatement and low price,

Even in a minute: so full of shapes is fancy

That it alone is high fantastical.  ""

It's funny to see this topic front-and-center again because, coincidentally, Bugler apparently is a top choice of Position of Responsibility for our scouts this semester.  Four of them gave speeches telling why they should be chosen.  In a very funny twist, the kid who gave the most convincing speech does not play a brass instrument.  He very cleverly dodged anything specific, and several of us thought he actually plays the bugle.  😂  After that meeting, one of the others showed up to the holiday party with his trumpet in tow.  They're really duking it out for a position that usually goes unfilled.

SPL will be making his choices after the new year.  We shall see.
