askyourspl Posted June 7, 2020 Share Posted June 7, 2020 Our troop is considering scheduling 1 or 2 weekend camp outs this summer in light of our Summer Camp being cancelled. We are in a very restrictive Covid state where we would not be allowed to camp, yet several adjacent states have already eased Covid restrictions in their states and camping would not be an issue. Would you schedule these camp outs in the other state and are there any BSA guidelines prohibiting this or any legal exposures we are opening ourselves up to? acema606 Posted June 7, 2020 Share Posted June 7, 2020 My Council, using state Executive Order as guide, dictates what we can and can’t do. Presently PLC’s and Committee meetings can take place fave to face as the current order allows groups of 10 or less. If we move as scheduled to the next phase late June can have face time face meetings and groups up to 50. All while practicing social distancing. Still no overnight unit camping at that point, but families will he allowed to camp together. Units physical location doesn’t dictate what we can do here (our Council contains parts of 3 states.). Councils make the determination, working closely with their council health supervisor and local health department, about when units can conduct in-person meetings and activities again. If the unit’s local council is allowing in-person activities but has restrictions in place (e.g., no more than 10, social distancing of 6 ft. etc.), the unit must meet and abide by those restrictions – even if the unit is traveling out of council/state. underlining added Good luck... BSA doesn't own the units. The Chartered Organizations own the units. BSA should defer to the CO's on this. This is what our council has said...follow guidance of your CO.
