towheadedviking
Hello. My Eagle Scout medal is from the early 1970s, and the ribbon could use some cleaning. Has anyone tried to clean these ribbons, and how would you do it?

qwazse
@towheadedviking, welcome to the forums! I have refurbished a medal or two, and simply replaced the ribbon. This strategy is successful if you can find a replacement in stock at a fabric store. Ordering online is a little more tricky. If you can remove the ribbon from your medal, a gentle rinse in a bowl of Dawn dish soap and water, then distilled water, should be enough to freshen it up. If there are stains, I'm not sure they'd be worth the trouble removing.
Eagle94-A1
If the ribbon needs replacing, contact a national scout shop. They use to sell replacement Eagle ribbons.

towheadedviking
Just an update, I wanted to keep the original ribbon, so I did clean it with Dawn soapsuds and a soft tooth brush (gently), removing the ribbon from the scroll first. Then rinsed it well, and dried it with a hair dryer. I'd say it removed about 80% of the dirt, and it looks much better now. Thanks for all the advice.
