dozer
Our troop is going to bike a rails to trails site next weekend. It's a 25 mile trip along the Allegheny River, all slightly downhill, with a half mile tunnel near the end. Fun trip, but last time it only took 2.5 hours, and one boy drove into the tunnel wall and broke his nose, Kinda dark in there LOL. Thinking about putting in a scavenger hunt to stretch the trip out longer, any suggestions?
ozemu
headlamps in the tunnel simulated accident to practice first aid (careful where you do that - dont want to cause a real accident by sudden braking) go fishing along the way each patrol to locate itself to a 6 or 8 figure grid reference at least three times. They should use a few minutes before starting to examine the map and find obvious places with lots of features to use when plotting the grid ref. scavenger hunt ideas - find sign of another group using the track, collect nuts / fruit / flowers / seeds, identify the origin of rock types, find erosion / high human impact areas, find sign of native animals, find sign of the rail use history, find a way to get behind the patrol behind you without being seen (hide along the route) identify the atmosperic conditions (cloud types etc), predict tomorrows weather,
dozer
Thanks for the input. I like the idea of one patrol getting behind the other, but knowing our guys we'd be out there in the dark looking for people lol. Maybe a map of the trail to mark where they find human impact or erosion. Last time we carried 4 lights, the guys with the lights went through before everybody got caught up. The one that hit the wall, was with the lights, go figure.
