Chosen to be the Scoutmaster of a new troop

Have a plan.  Share it with your ASMs.  If no ASMs, recruit some.

Sometimes, you'll do too much.  Sometimes, you'll do too little.  It's a learning process.

Freely admit your mistakes to the Scouts.

Do your best.

This is the best advice in the thread. The great Scoutmasters have a vision and are very humble. The vision keeps them going on the same course in the midst of chaos. And humility prevents them from changing course just to save their pride. Don't sway on your vision and freely admit your mistakes.

One thing I learned when I was a young manager is that people will always meet your expectations. If you expect them to succeed, they will. If you expect them to fail...well, you know.

Expect the best from your scouts and I guarantee they will rise to the challenge. I have seen it time and time again.

Enjoy the journey!
