Hedgehog
@@Hedgehog Sounds like your unit is smaller and closer in age/rank categories than ours. We have no issues with T2FC guys getting their cooking in AND the cooking MB guys getting their turn. In fact, there are many times the two can help each other. We have 3-4 unit based trail opportunities a year, 10-12 patrol based opportunities and 2 high adventure opportunities. Could be my unit is just different. Sounds like you have a good set up that works for you. Should post pics of the iron chef stadium. We are around 50 scouts, pretty evenly dispersed by grade. I'll take some pictures and post them when we do it in May. The four towers of stacked Dutch ovens is a pretty cool sight (they are stacked together on our patio so as not to leave burn marks on the lawn). I'll also get pictures of the dinners that were served. I'm still trying to find a suitable trophy that can be given out each year and passed on. Maybe it's not enough... I'm always for camping more. Tried to convince my son to try out the new four season tent in the last storm that dropped 24 inches... for some reason he didn't want to.
John-in-KC
This is why I prefer cook in camp summer camps over dining hall summer camps. 21 meals to prepare!
Stosh
I'm going to go out on a limb here but why would one NOT cook for cooking MB? I skimmed through the requirements and they tend to be vague in what is cooked and what is not. Maybe I shouldn't be a Cooking MB counselor because I would kinda expect my boys to cook ALL the meals and snacks using campfire, backpack stove, camp stoves (both white gas and propane, mess kit, stick, cardboard boxes, hot stones, pudgy pie irons, reflector ovens, Dutch ovens (both cooking and baking) and anything else I can think of that would be fun. I just don't think the intent of the cooking MB for snacks is handing out bags of Doritos.
