Casino Buses using public parks as Park and Ride, where Scouts meet. What should we do?

Really? You practically spelled it out for them. Do you not understand that  "air inside tires slowly and quietly finding its way outside" is the same thing as deflating? I suspect the boys do and you just condoned the behavior - behavior that you admit is "bad behavior" - evidently to be casually disregarded saying "picky, picky" with a shrug.

Is this your idea of a good role model for scouts?

For Shame @@JoeBob, really? deflating the tires?  One call to the Boy scouts nearby who have a portable pressure tank handy and with every popcorn sale will inflate their tires for them.  At least you didn't suggest black grease under the handles of all the driver side car doors.  That would not be good Scout PR at all. That would be real vandalism.  Or using liquid shoe polish to write, "I'm a casino loser." on the back windows of the cars would be unscout like, too.

 

On the other hand if such shenanigans were to get seriously out of hand in that part of the park, the boys could always sell "protection" and watch out for the cars of those who bought popcorn...... on a regular basis.... That might be an offer they couldn't refuse....if ya know what I mean.

I realize that communications such as posting to online forums are stripped of connotation and non-verbals and therefore often misunderstood, but when some writes something snarky and puts a little smiley face at the end, it should usually be taken as an indication of sarcasm, humor or facetiousness. Come on people, lighten up!

Twocubdad, I don't consider 'snarky' an appropriate response if the comment isn't addressed to the 'snark' in the first place AND I certainly don't consider it appropriate if the comment is about something that involves a scouter advocating the kinds of things that JoeBob seems to advocate. In that case 'snarky', to me, seems to be an attempt to make light of something that I consider serious, indicating that the 'snark' also doesn't take those actions seriously. The better response, in this case, would be for the 'snark', if he can't say something serious, to say nothing.

One of my children had just been released from the hospital after a very delicate surgery. It was summer and it was really hot. The vehicle had been sitting in the sun for hours while we waited for the release. It finally came and we left, on our way home and then to the pharmacy for the prescribed medications. We were driving through a mixed residential/business neighborhood not too far from the hospital and the car cut off - probably vaporlock. I saw a row of cars parked on the side of the street in front of some houses so I coasted into a space near the back. Car wouldn't start.

Child needs to use the toilet so we leave the car there in the shade to cool off and walk down the street to a convenience store. After a while we get back to the car. Child's pain meds are beginning to wear off and now very uncomfortable. We get to the car and both tires on the right side are flat. Same for the other parked cars.

Child starts to cry. I notice the people of one house opposite our car glaring at us. They just turn and go inside.

It takes around an hour for me to get enough tire inflator stuff to inflate both tires and child is in serious pain now. The other car owners haven't come back yet.

By the time we get home things are really bad. And I can't figure out why someone did something that hurtful and unnecessary to us.

Now I know. It was someone like YOU, JoeBob. I know you.

If some one gave you 2 flat tires, you must have been in a neighborhood where you should pay protection.

 

A clever Redneck who is driven to the point of disabling TWO tires will always pick opposite corners so that the suspension settles evenly so as to not draw attention...

 

 

To the OP: sorry I participated in derailing your thread. Good luck selling popcorn or finding a new meeting location.

Joe Bob et al: May I remind folks that the Scout Promise and Law applies to all, not just those who are reciprocating it. Your children are watching you, and learning from your example; even if you are not actively teaching, they are learning.
I believe it was Hillel who said that most of the Torah was the Golden Rule, that the rest was just commentary about that part.
Even Casino Bus goers deserve to be treated with respect and consideration.

 

I agree that city parks should not be utilized by tour busses to the exclusion of the general, tax paying public. I would sign your petition, but I don't live there, how much clout would that have?

Speak to the City Council, your Council Member, the Casino, the bus drivers, the press, sell popcorn, sell water bottles, park YOUR cars to encourage busses to go elsewhere. Suggest a solution:   Maybe a Hotel/Motel  parking lot, a nearby shopping center (some payment may be desired, not your concern), a different street that the city can REQUIRE  busses to use.  Not all that onerous, but a place to temporarily park cars (again, payment required by the city? ) might be a consideration.  The Casinos need to be in the loop here, for good PR, if nothing else. 

** Ask for a permit to "Take Over" the park for several days for a Scout Program!  (Cubaree ! Scoutarama !  Camporee !)  See what the Tour busses do with that!
