This has just begun the rounds on FB.  It is so crazy, it just has to be shared.

What is really scary to me is that there appear to be elected officials that are catering to these lunies.  Of course; there are some here on the Forums that may say this is why BSA moved to Texas.

Republicans pandering to right-wing crazies? I'm shocked!

Ted Cruise is joining in on the fun:

"I have a great deal of faith and confidence in Governor Abbott," said the senator. "He is a long-time friend and mentor of mine. You know, I understand a lot of the concerns raised by a lot of citizens about Jade Helm. It's a question I'm getting a lot."

Todd Smith is my new hero:

"Your letter pandering to idiots ... has left me livid," former State Rep. Todd Smith wrote Gov. Abbott. "I am horrified that I have to choose between the possibility that my Governor actually believes this stuff and the possibility that my Governor doesn't have the backbone to stand up to those who do."

You can read his full letter here. Of course, he is a former State Representative. In fact, all the criticism of the Governor has come either from Democrats, or former GOP officials. Where are the currently serving GOP elected officials calling the governor on this? There has to be some right? At least one? They can't be all afraid of the crazies? It's just my Google foo that is failing right?

'Some people' have always been 'out there' but they seem to have taken control of things lately. We can blame ourselves. We put them in those positions. And for once, I can defend Texas (just a little bit) in that it is easy for me to identify other states and authority structures in which the 'nutters', as Beavah used to refer to them, are in charge...both at present and in the past.

Easy solution, close all the US army, air force, etc... bases in TX and move them to another State. I bet the Gov will change his tune rather quickly if this was imminent.

I swear. Nothing like NPR and their "journalism". They cobbled together quotes and misquotes from reliable and non-reliable sources to craft up this fictitious piece of garbage.

 

If you read the official state press release, the Texas state resources are monitoring the exercises for any violation of state law since a portion of the exercises are taking place on private land. This was done at the request of the land owners in the event that federal troops damage or otherwise ruin private resources. A third party is required under Texas law to witness and investigate any claim in order for the land owner to be reimbursed. 

 

This happens ALL THE TIME in ANY state when private property is used. NPR is doing their usual slam job by making stuff up. Figures.

It does not really tie the Governor's action to the loonies who think the US military is invading Texas. I also like the part about the "FEMA death domes".

So where in this statement does it "go beyond" what I said?

 

""Governor Abbott directed General Betty to provide regular updates to the Governor’s Office to ensure that Texans’ “safety, constitutional rights, private property rights and civil liberties will not be infringed†during the eight-week training period from July 2015 – September 2015."

 

If you bothered to read any of the local press -- and not just side with the conservative bashers -- you'd see that the last time the Army (and Marines) used private property they did over $10m in damage, left behind live munitions (one near a state park) and held 10 residents for 24 hours because they drove in a restricted area which the Army failed to secure.

 

All the Texas residents want -- and I am talking about the average ones affected and not the Grassy Knoll nutters -- is to make sure that this stuff does not happen again. There's nothing in the official statements that say ANYTHING loony or conspiracy-minded.

 

I think you guys are reading in to this like NPR is. If this was from the State of NY no one would be questioning the statement. Talk about a tempest in a teapot. It's just fun to bash conservatives, I get that. When they do it they're labelled Nazis or something else. Meh.

I'm not much for conspiracy theories, but I am also a realist that believes humans are capable of some pretty big atrocities.  At least that's what their record shows.  I don't believe that with the current situation we now face, everything is still on the table.

 

If North Korea were to hold military exercises near the boarder of South Korea or in the international waters just off the coast of Japan, the US would probably react the same was as Governor Abbott.  

 

The US has thousands of acres of land they could be holding this "training" on.  Why not use that instead?  Better yet do it in Nkorth Korea's back yard and see what reaction they get from those people.
