AZMike
Interesting article on the status of "youth clubs" in modern Russia, which seem to be more paramilitary in tone. We do some hatchet-throwing, but not as much knife-throwing as these boys do. https://foreignpolicy.com/2015/05/01/putins-boy-scout-army-russia-military-patriotic-clubs-ukraine/ Does anyone know if there are actual scouting groups in Russia that are affiliated with the world scouting movement? (This may be considered more appropriate under the International Scouting forum; if so, mods please feel free to move it.)
Cambridgeskip
Certainly there are WOSM scouts in Russia. The only countries where there aren't are Andorra, Cuba, Laos, Burma and North Korea.
packsaddle
Interesting photo. The eyes, the expressions. Despite all the things we complain about, I'm thankful to be American, that my children are Americans. Edit: the next article on the Saudis was interesting too. CalicoPenn
Certainly there are WOSM scouts in Russia. The only countries where there aren't are Andorra, Cuba, Laos, Burma and North Korea. Vatican City, which is also considered an independent country, does not have a Scouting movement either so they should be added to the list. There are also 19 other soverign countries that have scouting programs that are not part of WOSM; Afghanistan - Afghanistan Scout Association Albania - Scouting and Guiding in Albania. In 2014, the membership of Beslidhja Skaut Albania was terminated by WOSM with hopes to establish a new National Scouting Organization.[5] Central African Republic - Fédération du scoutisme centrafricain Republic of the Congo - Association des Scouts et Guides du Congo Djibouti - Association des Scouts de Djibouti East Timor - União Nacional dos Escuteiros de Timor Leste Equatorial Guinea - Scouting in Equatorial Guinea Eritrea - National Scout Association of Eritrea Guinea-Bissau - Corpo Nacional de Escutas da Guiné-Bissau Iran - Iran Scout Organization Iraq - Iraq Boy Scouts and Girl Guides Council Kyrgyzstan - Scouting in Kyrgyzstan Mali - Scouting in Mali Samoa - Scouting in Samoa São Tomé and PrÃncipe - Associação dos Escuteiros de São Tomé e PrÃncipe Somalia - Scouting in Somalia Turkmenistan - Scouting in Turkmenistan Uzbekistan - Scouting in Uzbekistan Vietnam - Vietnamese Scout Association

How is that fair?
Peregrinator
Russia has many scouting and guiding associations. The WOSM/WAGGGS members aren't even the largest if the numbers on Wikipedia are to be believed.
Peregrinator
Even tiny San Marino has a WOSM/WAGGGS member association, even though its membership is less than 300: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Associazione_Guide_Esploratori_Cattolici_Sammarinesi
