perdidochas
We've got an EBOR today. (as ASM I'm not involved). The SM told me that the Eagle candidate has a reference that was written by the Eagle candidates father. Is this normal? Is this acceptable? NealOnWheels
A parent is one of the required references on the Eagle Application so yes it would be normal. http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/512-728_wb_fillable.pdf
qwazse
The boy is required to list a parent or guardian as a reference. If your question is about a written reference being normal, that varies by council (ours requires the boy to collect them). There is nothing on the application that says someone on the BOR couldn't volunteer to check each reference by phone or simply walk around town and get a handshake on each reference's vouching for the boy. walk in the woods
Normal as noted above and there might actually be two references written by the parents if the boy doesn't have a formal religious institution or leader to provide that reference. I just don't remember being sent a reference form, and my oldest son had his EBOR about a year ago. Our council sends out reference letters to the references. O'Scouter
I wrote one 6 months ago when my eldest boy did his EBOR.
qwazse
Is this a new thing? Or, maybe he "adopted" another parent who he thought would write a more glowing recommendation.
perdidochas
She didn't write anything either. That and the EBORs I've been to (back when I was AC), nobody had parent references. I have to admit, I would have felt kind of awkward writing it.
qwazse
Sounds like your council doesn't require letters from the parents. (Makes sense to me, haven't they done enough paperwork already?)
JoeBob
What parent would NOT recommend their child for Eagle? That would be fun... Hmmmmm. What can I get out of my Star Scout son this weekend?
SSScout
Such was noted as a "modification" to the new Eagle Procedure Guide here in the NCAC...http://c.ymcdn.com/sites/www.ncacbsa.org/resource/group/dabf2b2b-f7f6-48ee-a27c-9cc7e1a94a55/Documents/Eagle_Scout_Procedures_Guide.pdf?hhSearchTerms=%22Eagle+and+Procedure+and+Book%
scoutergipper
I wasn't asked to write one for my son, BUT parents are always called in to EBOR's to talk with the Board in our District.
Brewmeister
I wasn't asked to write one for my son' date=' BUT parents are always called in to EBOR's to talk with the Board in our District.[/quote'] And in our district both I and my wife wrote letters for our son, but we were not allowed in the EBOR. Not a lot of standardization on things it would seem.
perdidochas
Well, I learn something new every week. I had been on six or seven EBORs and had never heard of a parent filling out a reference form before. I think we have new office staff, so they have started sending those out to parents. RememberSchiff
This is rather silly. I cannot recall following a job interview where a HR person said to me, "Oh, we are waiting to hear from your mother before we make a decision."
