scoutingagain
Here's the referenced article... pretty impressive. SA PARKERSBURG, W.Va. A 12-year-old boy saved his 18-month-old sister from a fire in their home, running through smoke and flames and carrying her out through a second-floor window onto a porch roof. "She's my sister, and I'm supposed to take care of her," said Michael Wedekamm, who suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation in the fire early Tuesday. The blaze started in first-floor bedroom and quickly spread to the rest of the two-story home where Michael lived with his mother and three sisters. All escaped with minor injuries. "Michael went up to get the baby. The rest of them went out the back door," said Lt. Carl Sizemore, Parkersburg's chief fire inspector. The boy had to kick out a window screen and climb onto the porch roof because the stairway was filled with smoke, authorities said. He handed his young sister, Allison, to his 11-year-old sister on the ground and jumped to safety. Michael credited his Boy Scout (search) training with helping him pick the best escape route, said Sizemore, adding that the department planned to give the boy a reward. "He went through some flames; he got singed up pretty good," said Michael's father, Shane Wedekamm. "I'm proud of him. The boy did good."
Fat Old Guy
If he's still in Scouting, I hope that someone puts him in for a medal.
Fat Old Guy
Why is that we never read about the kids who knew how to rescue others or save themselves because they played soccer? ;-) I just read a piece in Reader's Digest about a kid who was stranded on a mountain and knew how to survive because he'd been a Boy Scout. scoutingagain
"Why is that we never read about the kids who knew how to rescue others or save themselves because they played soccer? ;-) " Best recruiting statement I think I've read in the forum. NJCubScouter
From one practitioner of sarcasm to another, very good, FOG.
dsteele
This is a great story. FOG's statement was also astute. Let's hope the Scout uses his reward money to buy Dad some lessons in our wonderful language. "He went through some flames; he got singed up pretty good," said Michael's father, Shane Wedekamm. "I'm proud of him. The boy did good." Jeez. DS

Fat Old Guy
Man O'Steele said, "Let's hope the Scout uses his reward money to buy Dad some lessons in our wonderful language." You're right. Everyone knows that it should be "He done good."
captainron14
If anyone on this list is in this boys Council, you should have him "put in" for a Honor Medal or Lifesaving Medal. Chalk one up for the "Good Guys".
Be_Prepared
He was on the NBC Today show this morning. The family was interviewed in front of the burned out house. He was in his scout uniform.
