SSScout
Scrap Metal Stolen from Scout Collection Bin http://www.orilliapacket.com/2014/10/01/thefts-hitting-scouts-where-it-hurts "" ~~Sandra Corbasson doesn’t understand why anyone would steal from Scouts. The Washago Scout leader suspects someone is regularly looting a scrap-metal and electronics collection bin being used by seven area Scouts to help fund their trip to a world jamboree in Japan next year....."" Basementdweller
Sounds like an interesting issue for the IRS to look into....Using money raised for a non profit for individual benefit. The enterprise looks suspect. Scrap metal for troop gear is OKAY, for vacation to japan, not so much.

Basementdweller
7000 each to attend world jambo...holy moley So how many boys could attend a week of summer camp with that amount of cash????? let me see.....35 scouts at my camp. How many weekend camping trips would that finance? for my troop 20 or nearly 2 years of program How many tents would that buy.......we buy timberline 4 outfitters.......300 each so 22 of those. Very screwed up. That amount of money could impact so many more boys than one or two scouts.

So I didn't see anywhere in the link where it said the Scouts are representing their fundraising as a troop fundraiser. If one, two, or seven Scouts want to go around collecting aluminum cans, scrap metal, or working odd jobs to help pay for their individual participation in Scout activities, then how does that automatically become a Troop fundraising activity that would face IRS scrutiny? I'm thinking from the information provided these are Canadian Scouts. OPP is Ontario Provincial Police. Stosh
