King Ding Dong
I tried the whole Spock thing. Didn't work. Not enough Vulcan blood. Pain level 11.
NJCubScouter
Get kidney stones? You will have your hand around the doctors neck if he doesn't give you better drugs. We all have our breaking point. Kidney stones are mine. Went through that once, six years ago. Just reading the words causes me pain. I don't remember what medication I was given for the pain, but I am pretty sure I was not driving while taking it.
King Ding Dong
Neither did I but operating heavy machinery sure would have been a blast.
O'Scouter
Glad to have avoided kidney stones so far..but I hear they are unbearable. I have been on a morphine drip in the past..wouldn't want to repeat that experience, the morphine or the surgery.
dedkad
I think you did the right thing by contacting the other troop. Hopefully we are past those dark days of sweeping things like child molestation and other offenses under the rug due to the fear of slandering some "innocent' person's name. As BD said, "The boys safety is all of our responsibilities."

We should act on every rumor and bit of innuendo "just in case", and if we happen to destroy an innocent person's reputation and life, well that is "just too bad"? Way to live the scout law.
Stosh
I've had the police show up at my place of business to confront me about an incident with a child. I told the officer in no uncertain terms the kid was full of $..t. Then two other people who witnessed the incident said exactly word for word the same thing I said. I then asked the officer where I need to go to file a report against the kid. I did file when I found out the officer went back to the kid and praised him for coming forth and saying something. I have found out that after 40 years of working with kids, if one is ever confronted one on one by a child, the adult will automatically lose. Well, when one is in the right, fight back to win. If one is falsely accusing someone, one had better expect to lose. In this day and age one had better well know for sure what's really going on before an accusation is expressed. If one suspects, find out the facts before saying anything. Everyone out there says, report, even if one just suspects it. Well, in a court of law, when you give testimony and all you have to say is I suspected it and don't have any evidence to back you up, it's going to be a bad day all the way around. Your credibility will slip to zip rather quickly. Stosh
Rick_in_CA
I have found out that after 40 years of working with kids' date=' if one is ever confronted one on one by a child, the adult will automatically lose. Well, when one is in the right, fight back to win.[/quote'] An incident happened to a relative of mine many years ago. He was at a department store leaning over a table looking at some shirts. A little girl (around five or six years old?) was running and playing and she ran into him. Immediately she started crying and saying "he touched me!" while pointing at my relative (it appears she got some version of the "no touching" talk but didn't understand it). Then came Mom screaming at him and an ugly crowd gathered. If it wasn't for several witnesses that stepped forward and defended him, violence might have broken out. Mom wouldn't be molified even when she was shown the security video clearly showing her little girl running into my relative and him doing nothing. She had to be escorted out by store security as she demanded that my relative be arrested. Thank God there was video and witnesses willing to "get involved", it might have gone very badly for him. So yes, we need to care about slandering innocent people as much as we need to care about protecting children. If we don't care about both, we will accomplish neither. O'Scouter
Of course we must be concerned about the possibility of slandering innocent people. I think the point being made was that we should certainly err on the side of caution and take concerns seriously. This is why we all take youth protection and avail ourselves of 2 deep leadership. Having said so, there is an arrest record, and public statements by this person in writing describing choking his sister, punching his own mother in the face, (as an adult) and I have personally seen the 2 black eyes he left on a kid that I know, to which he admitted. This is not a stand-up guy. No innocent victim in this case. Just a ticking time bomb.

I hereby go on record that I don't think we should slander innocent people, I said we shouldn't worry about slandering "innocent" people. Everyone is considered "innocent" until convicted in a court of law, but it doesn't take too much sense to know when someone is guilty of unacceptable behavior. In O'Scouter's case, we weren't talking about a single instance of questionable behavior, but rather a plethora of concerns that when taken together would most certainly warrant a need to be brought to the SM's attention in order to protect the boys. When there is clear cut evidence, then by all means follow up with whatever means possible. If people decide to sweep that evidence under the rug and give the guy a break, they do nothing more than prolong the problem. With evidence, follow up. Without evidence, shut up. (Remember, hearsay is not evidence) Stosh By the way, YPT is a misnomer, YPT is for the protection of the adults. It is the only real way to protect yourself from some kid with a vendetta or some child who has been improperly trained to report incidents. Remember, if an adult reports an incident first, they are on better ground than if the child does. Yes, I have had "idle threats" against me by youth that have resulted in my immediately calling 911. Child welfare people don't mess around with things like this. Well.... neither do I. Sounds kinda harsh, but that's how one survives working with kids of all ages and temperaments for 40+ years.

I blame excessive consumption of caffeine.
