AZMike
Just ran across this today, I don't think it's been posted yet. An interview with Robert Gates and a look at grassroots level Scouters. http://www.esquire.com/features/boy-scouts-1014
LeCastor
I just read the article and it left me wanting more! That said, I think it's well-written and much-needed. It's important to explain to milennial parents why Scouting is still relevant and why they, too, should get involved in Scouting with their children. Cub Scout Packs in my community are dwindling each year and, in fact, one of the oldest in the city is folding after this year; they won't recharter this December. In my opinion, there is a lack of understanding from young parents today in regards to Scouting's value in the 21st century.
scoutergipper
I enjoyed this article, and was surprised by how balanced it was. BSA - especially at the Council level - needs to do much more positive marketing and public relations. Most of the time, all the news is about gay rights or child abuse, and when there's no competing positive messaging, that is going to be all people know about Scouts. "If you don't like what people are saying about you, change the conversation," Don Draper.
