EagleInKY
We're a new troop (7 first year scouts, 2 second year). Here's our stats: How many boys registered? 9 How many boys active? 9 How many Patrols? 2 Does your troop go to summer camp in or out of Council? In council Does your troop go to Dist/Council Camporees? Yes, if/when they have them. We're doing Klondike in a couple of weeks. Does your troop support FOS? Yes, but not coerced. Does your troop sell Popcorn? If not, what are your fundraisers? Popcorn yes. We've also done a food booth at a community festival and we are planning a spaghetti supper. 1/4 of all profits are given back to the boys (in proportion to their participation) in the form of a credit for camping/activity fees. Does your troop use NSP, FCFY method? We're too new too say regarding NSP. We're discussing it. As for FCFY, we provide a program which affords the scout the opportunity to advance at this rate. But we don't force it. Does your troop have a Venture Patrol? No, too new Does your troop have a feeder pack? Yes How does your troop recruit non-Cub Scouts? We don't Has your troop seen your Unit Commissioner in the past 6 months? Who??? Is your Unit Commissioner helpful or a pain? Unit commiss... what's that? Does your troop leaders attend Roundtable? I do (SM), sometimes others do as well. How many members are on your troop committee? 9, one from each family. Is your troop boy led? To an extent. We're moving there as quickly as we can. scoutingagain
Ok, I'll play. How many boys registered? 28 How many boys active? 20-22 How many Patrols? 3 Does your troop go to summer camp in or out of Council? In Does your troop go to Dist/Council Camporees? Yes Does your troop support FOS? Mildly Does your troop sell Popcorn? No If not, what are your fundraisers? Sell Christmas Wreaths Does your troop use NSP, (Yes) FCFY method? FC usually in 12-18 months Does your troop have a Venture Patrol? No Does your troop have a feeder pack? Yes How does your troop recruit non-Cub Scouts? Word of mouth among scouts. 5 current scouts were not Cubs. Has your troop seen your Unit Commissioner in the past 6 months? Not in the last 36 months Is your Unit Commissioner helpful or a pain? Never met him/her. Does your troop leaders attend Roundtable? Yes How many members are on your troop committee? 8 Active Is your troop boy led? The tough question. I would say yes, but they should be doing more. It's the adult's fault, not the scouts. But this would get into a long history lesson on the rise, fall, and rise of the troop based on recent(5 year) history. Good luck SA
Chippewa29
Wow. That's a lot of questions. I'll do my best to answer them. We have 16 Scouts registered and fourteen I'd consider active. They are currently set up in two patrols. We go to summer camp in council and attend our district's fall camporee. Yes, we support FOS and sell popcorn. The only other fundraiser we've done in the past few years is a bottle and can drive. We use New Scout Patrol entirely for the first six months. After six months, if there are open spots in the previous patrols, the new Scouts fill those spots. If there are enough Scouts to add a strong extra patrol (meaning at least 6-8 Scouts after the other patrols have been filled), then we keep the new Scouts in the New Scout Patrol. We are currently trying to use the FCFY program, but without much success. Different Scouts in the troop have different activities so that they aren't as active during certain parts of the year. Some of our Scouts play baseball and are only at half the meetings in the spring (full time the rest of the year) while others do a fall activity the makes them part timers for a couple of months. We do not have a Venture Patrol at this time since we only have a couple of 14 year olds and the rest are younger. We are trying to develop feeder packs, but there are six other troops in a 15 minute radius of us along with 15 packs. Things tend to switch around quite a bit come February. We usually get one or two non-Webelos a year. They are always the friend of a Scout in the troop who is tired of missing out on his friend's adventures. We just got a new unit commissioner a couple of months ago and he is great. I could not be happier with the support he is giving us. Our troop committee is strong. There are over twenty members (every Scout has at least one parent, sometimes two signed up, as well as a few active alumni parents). We are slowly but surely transitioning to a boy-led troop. Its been a struggle, since our troop was for years dominated by adults. However, the kids are starting to get more of a taste of what needs to be done and are picking up the ball more often. NJCubScouter
purcelce, I will respond in a private message. My answers to some of the questions will disclose imperfections in my son's troop, and based on what is going on in another thread right now, I am not interested in becoming Troop C.
