display for the non-crafty and anti-pintrest

My son is no longer a cub scout. He's got a bunch of patches that he never even got to wear and he's got a ton of belt loops. The shirt and neckers go to his younger brother, so I can't use those in whatever I make for display. I am not crafty. I refuse to use pintrest. I've seen the animal skin display. That looks cool and since it's in one of the cub books, it can't be too hard to make. What about the belt loops? My son has a whole lot of them, and the belts will go to his younger brother. (My son had so many loops that he had to put half on his father's belt and rotate which one he wore.)

for patches I simply sewed them onto a fleece blanket that now hangs on the wall. As a cubby his pack didn't pay for belt loops as they were costly and easy to earn and left it up to parents to pay for them but none from while he was in ever bothered with them so I didn't have to worry about them but could just get a belt about the same size and color and put them on and hang them up to display too.

I put Cub son's swag, including belt loops, in a $30 on-sale shadow box from Michaels. Used hot glue gun. I trimmed and used the Webelos necker as part of the background. Google "Boy Scout Shadow Box" and look under Images heading. I have also seen a navy felt banner with awards and insignia on it hanging by loops from an arrow. I am not crafty, but I can tweak other folks ideas.

While I absolutely love crafting and Pinterest, I'm not very good at it. I can make some of the best fails you've ever seen. I've been wondering the same for later on down the line for my son(s). My husband is very skilled when it comes to building stuff - I may get him and my son to build a large shadow box to stick everything in. Like Polaris mentioned, you can always buy a shadow box if you don't want to build one. Right now all my son's patches are stuck in his scrapbook with double sided tape. I keep everything else in a box nearby. There are two images of projects I've seen that I adore - maybe they'll help (let's pretend I didn't find them originally on Pinterest, I'm sure Google can find them just as easily ;) ) One has the neckerchiefs, the other one doesn't. But again, just general ideas. Good luck!

Our Webelos Den made something like this for Craftsman: http://cubscoutcrafts.com/belt-loop-and-pin-display-case/

Simplified with 1X2 and wood connecters rather than 2X4 and nails, used large rubber bands and a staple gun rather then elastic cord, backed it with construction paper, added a sawtooth hook for hanging on a nail/wall. Stain/paint optional.
