EagleScout441
With the government "shutdown" all government run National Parks, from Yosemite to the Statue of Liberty, are being closed and campers are being given 2 days to pack up and leave. I hope no one's troops, crews, or packs use National Parks as your main camping locations. Lets just hope that they can figure this out.

Stosh
All the state parks in Wisconsin are open and no government in the way of having a great time. They are really gorgeous this time of year, too. Stosh
packsaddle
National Forest offices are closed but the trails are still available. Put away the tent shelters, dutch ovens, and Winnebagos. Pick up a backpack and do some real outdoor adventure. As for the closed parks, nice - the wildlife can use a 'breather'.

Builder
All the NPS web pages are down as well. You get redirected to Dept. of Interior main page. Because of the federal government shutdown, all national parks are closed and National Park Service webpages are not operating. For more information, go to www.doi.gov. I don't mind if you go on foot, but around here there are places where there are "roads" around the gate made by 4 wheelers and sometimes expanded enough to get a truck around. If you are planning a trip behind a gated area please be considerate, go on foot, and don't leave a path big enough for motorized vehicles to pass. Hopefully it's figured out by then!!Brew, they are closing the roads up to the canyon. you can't get a permit (even if already approved like ours) to backpack into the canyon. All reservations will not be honored, even prepaid tickets to get into the park. There isn't a fence around the place that can be totally locked down if you are going to hike around the canyon but they are certainly trying their darndest to keep everyone out. 5yearscouter
It would have taken longer to break all the links or make all the reservations services "unavailable" for all the things you can get a permit for online-- than it took to just take the site offline and plug in a redirect to the dept of the interior. King Ding Dong
I bet if we offered to sell all the mineral rights for the National Parks the shutdown would be over in about 90 seconds.
mashmaster
I just wish the boneheads on both sides of the aisle would figure this out. They've had chances to actually work out differences before now but none of them have tried. I don't buy the current arguments on either side.
