Why not have your local Civilian Air Patrol sponsor a Post or a Crew?

Problem with the Air Scout program (its not "Air Scouts of America") was that it was a PRE-flight program. Flying was never a part of the program. And that turned off many youth, who joined CAP.

As a former CAP Cadet, let me tell you they didn't have much flying for the youth either.

How about a crew dedicated to building an airplanes? Each entering class gets a design and fundraises for parts. Over the years, assembles it and gets FAA approval. You fly your class' model on your 21st birthday. Graduates "buy back" their model by advising underclassmen!

This varied from one squadron to the next. As a former CAP Cadet, I got a lot of flight time and had I not been radio-operator trained, I would have had a lot more on the search/rescue operations.
