Dimemaker
What is the length of term for a District Committee chair ex. Camping training advancement? Is there offical guidelines on this or is it up to the Council how long they serve?
Twocubdad
As with every position in Scouting, the term is one year. Unless there is a local policy, the position is renewable indefinitely.
eghiglie
In our area Council requires that you have a three year term limit, just as they get good at a job a new person comes in. Its sometimes frustrating.
John-in-KC
In my Council, the typical commitment for a member of the Key 3 is 3 years. Of course, actual membership is renewed annually.
scoutldr
One year. The first order of business in the new year is to elect the District Committee. Other than the District Chairman, District Commissioner, and CORs all other positions are "at large" members of the Committee. Then, once the ballot is approved, subcommittee chair assignments are made by the District Chairman (Camping, Membership, Training, Finance, Activities, etc). Those assignments can be changed at any time, but that doesn't change your status as an "at large" member of the District Committee. IN reality, people can stay as long as they want and are perceived as doing a good job. The annual election is mainly a formality. At least that's how it is in our neck of the woods. hotmamatigger
Thank you for the replies so far. So indefinitely 5, 10 15,50 years are not unheard of for someone doing a "good job"?

scoutldr
All depends on how tight the "Good Ole' Boys" club is in your District/Council and the pool of willing volunteers. But if there is someone firmly entrenched who is NOT doing their job and providing what the units need, the CORs need to exercise their ex officio voice and complain at the District meetings. Most don't complain because they're not willing to step up and take over the job.
Eamonn
District Commissioners and District Committee members in our Council can serve indefinitely. District Chairs have a 3 year term. I'm not sure why? Think it might be because the Chair is on the Council Executive Committee. Ea
