tagguy
My unit has been selling trees for about a dozen years now. This goes into a troop fund earned by the scouts that participate. Then they can use it to offset summer camp,or ski trip, or what ever scout activity they choose. Several units in my area sell trees.
insanescouter
The Troop I was in as a youth also sold trees. I really enjoyed and often worked way beyond my scheduled hours. I was wondering with the recent news about people stealing trees Scouts are trying to sell, if any of you have come up with effective security? Scoutmaster Ron
To piggy back ontu your selling trees fundraiser why dont you offer the service of picking them up and having them recycled? Our area has done it for over 25 years now.
tagguy
Sounds like an idea worth looking into. I may start by contacting the local public works dept.
Gunny2862
Our local OA chapter sets up at a local business to collect trees on a by donation basis then grinds them and sells the mulch to the local public utility who resells it.
Basementdweller
A lot of really great ideas. I like the recycle angle.
infoscouter
I also love the tree recycling idea. However, our private trash haulers offer this service, for no extra fee. They are prohibited by law from taking the trees to a landfill, and so must take them to the local mulch/yard waste facility where they are ground up. HobcawChaos
There are also many people who will donate to have Scouts come to their house (with an Adult Leader present of course) and retrieve lights, ornaments, etc from the attic or basement and hang on said Scout tree.
