clydesdale115
Our Pack does not provide any funds to the dens to defray den costs (like boys' admissions to museums or events) or reimburse for den expenses (like supplies for projects). Monies raised from Pack fundraisers go into the Pack funds. We tried individual Cubby Bucks accounts, but they were a mess. I know the requirements and forms for a "Unit" Money-Earning project, but what about individual DENS within the Pack that want to raise money? What is your take on this angle? clyde
rkfrance
We collected den dues. The amount can vary ($.50 - $1) and is usually determined by the den leader. The den leader could use that money toward expenses for crafts, etc. At the end of the year, any money left would go into the pack general fund, or with committee approval, be carried over for the next year. Newbie Den Leader
In our Pack, the Dens support themselves by collecting monthly dues ($5). Each den gives 20% of dues collected back to the Pack. In our scenario, the dens typically have more money in their accounts than Pack. This way, the dens are not dependent on the Pack to "subsidize" the cost of their den activities. When we do fundraisers, it's for the Pack so we will have money for Pack events. That said, we have nothing in Pack rules that would prohibit a Den from doing their own fundraiser. ScoutNut
Check out your "Cub Scout Leader Book". Individual Cub Scout Dens are NOT allowed to do money earning projects. Charge Den dues for basic supplies. Have families pay their own way for admission fees. Have families bring in supplies for specific projects. Everyone should be on craft supply watch (or as my son likes to call it - garbage picker watch) at all times. Companies will throw out the darnedest things, so the families employers are a great resource!
