Does France have gay Scout leaders?

Well at least it's not hate speech yet!

""France set to ban words 'mother' and 'father' on official documents under plans to legalize gay marriage""

"This could have innumerable consequences. Afterward they will want to create couples with three or four members. And after that, perhaps one day the taboo of incest will fall," he said, according to the report."

Good old fearmongering from the RCC. Here's a bit you omitted:

"Gay marriage would herald a complete breakdown in society"

Yeah, the Netherlands are just like Mad Max now, and all because they legalized gay marriage over a decade ago. Oh wait, they aren't.

It's not too smart to take advice from an organization that criminally conspired to cover up child abuse. Just sayin'.

Eagledad, could you please do your fellow forum members a favor, and if your initial post in a thread has nothing at all to do with Scouting, not give the thread a title that implies that it is about Scouting? Half the time I skip threads that do not seem to have anything to do with Scouting, and this probably would have been one of them. Just a friendly request.

The actual question asked in the topic appears to be a bit difficult to answer based on a quick search of the web. It seems clear that most European countries take a more liberal approach to this topic than the BSA does, but France has additional complications.

There are five Scouting groups in France, which appear to be the Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, and Muslim Scouting organizations, as well as the original, plain, Scouts of France. They all belong to one French Scouting organization. From their interactive map of Scout units, it looks like the Catholics are the overwhelming majority, followed by the Scouts of France, then the Protestants, and way down the list were the Muslims and the Jews (looking at the map I only saw three Muslim pins and one Jewish pin).

The simple answer to the question would be that yes, no doubt, there are some gay Scout leaders in France. Finding the official policy, though, I'll leave to someone else.

"Trouble with us Americans..We think we control Everything."

And yet one encounters this line of thinking so often that one begins to suspect the trouble is self loathing. Which is not to say that there aren't some foreign areas in which we're formally engaged... to our detriment.

There are five groups that make up the Fdration du scoutisme Franais (WOSM/WAGGS member) but there are many more scouting groups in France. There are three main Catholic scouting organizations, the Scouts et Guides de France, the Guides et Scouts d'Europe, and the Scouts Unitaires de France.

So, Peregrinator, in other words, if you form a new Scouting organization in France, and call it "Scouts", it seems like the national equivalent of the BSA does NOT immediately threaten to sue you. That seems like a big difference right there. It also seems like, if your new Scouting organization gets big enough, you can become a member of the national "federation" of Scouting. Another big difference. Here in the U.S. we have one national organization that has a monopoly on the words "Scouts" and "Scouting" (at least as applied to males) and no "umbrella" organization that can accommodate separate organizations that do some things differently. If we did, that might solve part of the problem, though I think local option would solve it a lot more easily.

"Gay marriage would herald a complete breakdown in society," Cardinal Philippe Barbarin, the head of the French Catholic Church, told Christians RFC radio last week."

Ummm, Cardinal Barbarin does live in France, doesn't he? If so, he must know how ridiculous a statement that was - a breakdown in society France? Heck, Ronald McDonald sneezes and the French society breaks down.(This message has been edited by calicopenn)
