According to its IRS Form 990, in 2009, Learning for Life received $93,792 in grants and contributions. The bulk of its revenue came from "program service" - labeled as participation and licensing fees ($5,539,861).

From our council's executive committee/board meetings. LFL is supposed to be revenue neutral to the councils now. The BSA essentially sells the program to schools. The cost is typically borne by businesses, The figures that you present do not negate that.

So the private corporations' donations aren't called contributions, they're called licensing or participation fees? That sounds a bit odd.

I have no knowledge what was done in this instance but in general, that is what is done. The sponsoring corporations pay the licensing and participation fees for the schools.
