Nike
What will we do without pi? http://news.yahoo.com/mathematicians-want-goodbye-pi-154001699.html You just can't eat Tau.
CalicoPenn
Have to agree, you can't eat Tau. And what is Tau anyway? 2Pi. Seems 2Pi is perfect, expecially if you can mix them - say a Pizza Pi for dinner and an Apple Pi for dessert.

Engineer61
In 1897, the Indiana House of Representatives considered a bill that would define Pi in one of three ways. 3.2 4 3.23 The bill eventually died. "Go figure." (I just HAD to add that.
TAHAWK
I recall "Goodby to the English measurement system." Most people alive today were not alive when the absolute triumph of the Metric System was announced.
CalicoPenn
Metric System? Oh yeah, that weird system of measurements that causes people listening to Canadian radio to wonder when 33 degrees was considered hot and people driving Canadian roads to wonder why 65 kph seems so slow. sailingpj
Below I have proof that Tau is better than Pi. Given that one tau equals two pi. Tau = 2Pi And two Pi is greater (better) than one Pi. 2Pi > Pi Then Tau must be greater (better) than Pi. Tau > Pi
SeattlePioneer
I kind of like the Tau idea. For one thing, it's about the only issue in mathematics I can think of where a middle school student and a math professor might have a math issue they could discuss with a degree of equality. Oak Tree
Metric System? English System? Which one do we use? My car's tires have a diameter measured in inches and a thickness measured in millimeters. My caffeinated soda lists the caffeine content in milligrams/oz. Pi ( π )? Tau ( τ )? It's all good. I like tau. But I'm doubting the middle schoolers are going to be up for the discussion of whether e to the pi*i is part of an important equation (eπi=-1). Still SP, I see your point.
