Trevorum
Rooster, your analogy fails also. You'll find no such links on www.scouting.org, on www.scoutstuff.org, or on other official BSA sites. However, this is not an official BSA site. Instead, it is a forum to encourage the open exchange of information and viewpoints among Scouts and Scouters (IMHO). I rather suspect that if Terry wanted to squelch all opinions other than the BSA party line, he would have banned Merlyn (and many others) long ago. Administrators SCOUTER-Terry Posted July 14, 2005 Administrators Share Posted July 14, 2005 Yes, but that wouldn't have been very Scoutlike. TERRY HOWERTON
OldGreyEagle
Rooster, I would not expect many members of Mothers Against Pornography to not have a problem with Pornography, however, there are members of the BSA, some of whom are frequent posters on this forum, who don't share the some attitude of gays as is the official BSA policy. Trevorum
oooh, Terry! The delicious irony! Yes, I fully agree with you that banning someone from your private organization just because you don't agree with their beliefs would be very unscoutlike. It's too bad that the good folks in Irving don't agree.
NJCubScouter
Yay Trevorum. I thought of that analogy but wanted to see if someone else would make it. Apparently, to some people a private organization or a private business only has the right to make its own policies if those policies promote the idea of excluding gay people. The hypocrisy is so obvious.
Fuzzy Bear
Terry said that the items on the shelf were there because it was an automated search program that put them there. So making inferences to applaud or decry the censor doesn't sound quite as credible as it was first thought. Having a squabble over a computer injustice appears to be a waste of good verbal ammunition. From now on, let's use care and good judgment as to where we plant our word bullets. Make each one count! scoutingagain
"Maybe Scouter-Terry should just get rid of anything that looks remotely like a view that's contrary to what some might consider the "ex cathedra" dictates of BSA and change the name of the website to "www.StepfordScouting.com". " Actually I was thinking the same thing but calling it FOXScouting.com SA

Fuzzy Bear
PS, We must save our verbal ammo for the coming onslaught. Remember this is Harry Potter night. That one could easily make the list and really put a crimp in the crusade for better reading. In this age of information, it is ideas that besiege us not just the hordes of marauding words. lasteagle83
Perhaps we could start our own radio shows like Janeane Garafolo and Al Franken........let's see, what was that radio network again......oh yea, it's "Err America".......... :-)
Prairie_Scouter
Fuzzy, Boy, you talk about a "hype bomb". I'm wondering how many kids were tampled in the mad dash to get one of the 10.5 million copies of the latest book that went on sale today. I like the stories, myself, but the hype is getting kind of nutty.
Kudu
I enjoy media hype, and what's not to like about Harry Potter? I didn't start reading it until I discovered how many of my Scouts had read the entire series not once but many times. Scouts I never suspected of having read a book :-/
OldGreyEagle
Print is dead Egon Spangler Ghostbuster's There are those who would say in today's electronic video game world full of to many scheduled activities, that the art of reading for entertainment is dead, or at least many people thought it was. But along comes an author who gave the demographic (roughly the same as cub/boy scouts) what interested them and a welfare mother makes millions. Perhaps we should take heart in Harry Potter, if we give that same demographic something that interests them, we will be enriched as well, just not with money but with members. Their curiosity can be stirred, it just has to be what interests them, not adults, it needs to be boy run, wait, where have I heard that before?
