What about gay parents?

And now stlscouter is slyly asking for sources where he can find accordion music, and trying to identify fellow accordion players sort of an "accordion-dar". This is astonishing. My suspicions of who in this forum may in fact be closeted accordion players is nearly spot on, so far. (I'm still waiting for a few to reveal themselves.)

I'm starting to see a pattern, though. I wonder, are the closeted accordion lovers among us inversely proportional to the folks that oppose homosexuals?

I think it's high time that the BSA stopped its hidden discrimination against accordians. I can't remain silent on this any longer.

When was the last time you saw an accordian at a troop meeting, COH, or other event? It's just unfair, when instruments like guitars are openly welcomed. And yes, we all know about the "don't ask, don't play" policy they've put into place, but it's just not right.

And I just can't go along with the assertion that because Jesus didn't condone the use of accordians anywhere in the Bible, they can't be used. You are welcome to your beliefs, but I find it hard to believe that the city of Sodom was destroyed because they refused to cast down their accordians. And, I've read studies that the Bible originally contained a "Book of Polkas" that was deleted somewhere around 1200 AD.

And yes, the BSA was successful in several court cases in defining itself as an "orchestra" and therefore able to select the instruments most appropriate to their mission. Once again, that doesn't make it right. Accordians not only have their own sound, they can mimic the sounds of many instruments in the orchestra. We should welcome that, not condemn it.

If BSA discriminates against accordians, we have to ask, "who's next?". Piccolos, perhaps, or triangles?

Actually...God did allow the use of horns and the smashing of clay jars to destroy Jericho..BUT no accordions. Does that mean that God discriminates? Perhaps. But then again I guess that those who play with their accordian in the privacy of their own bedroom would claim it is nobody elses business. I fear for the negative effect on the children. May be playing in the closet is a better option...can anyone really say that playing an accordion is immoral? Or is just owning one and being the object of scorn in your community enough. Will the ACLU take up this cause and demand that the National Endowment for the Arts fund accordion players at the same rate as other groups? In the words of the great philosopher A. E. Newman "What, me worry?"

Psst TJ, I have to admit, back in the old neighborhood whenever Stosh Wasielewski played "Lady of Spain I Adore You" on his "squeezebox", it never failed to bring a tear to my eye(This message has been edited by OldGreyEagle)

What is an accordion good for?

Learning how to fold a map.

What's the difference between an accordion and a trampoline?

You take your shoes off before you jump up and down on a trampoline.

At least accordion players can laugh at themselves!

OGE

Are you a banjophobe? Are you of such a superior sort that you think only instruments heard in the afternoon on NPR are worhty?

Do you think banjos should be lumped in there with the lowly accordion.

At least the banjo is an Ameican insturmnet and not some foreigner! :)

Oh if only I had some musical ability and my fingers would move that fast.

Of course neither instrument lends itself to vocal accompaniament which means it would be right for me cause I can't sing either!

"Oh if only I had some musical ability and my fingers would move that fast"

I should have known, Ronvo is a bagpiper!

He was very clever with that foreign comment, but his words betrayed him.

Funny thing, I didnt think, when this thread started, that I was a bigoted at all, but here I must confess, I am an antibanjo-ite and suffer from a bagpiperphobia. I guess its only a quesiotn of time before BSA membership is revoked ::choke::

Now come on, accordion players are clearly born that way, I mean why would anyone choose to play an accordion?

But bagpipers, that's a different story. I think both accordion players and non-accordion players could play the bagpipe. It just takes a willing effort. Not that there's anything wrong with that. In fact, I think it can be quite emotional and satisfying to hear a bagpipe off in the distance late at night or early in the morning.

PETA and the ASPCA have been called because it is very dificult to tell the differece between bagpipes on the distance and swinging a cat by the tail over your head. But then again is a bagpiper a musician or just a bagpipe player and is there any dirty meaning or image in the bagpipe (pornography perhaps?)?

There is something immoral in squeezing a dead bladder without the owner's permission And just because Jesus did not mention the sinfulness of either the accordion or the bagpipe I think he cover it when he said go and sin no more-after all the crowd was about to throw stones-a behavior some people want to do when in the presence of bagpipers and accordionists.

I believe tortdog could add to the legal ramifications if he were to weigh in.

No matter how much one disdains the accordion, one still must appreciate the accordionist that is able to play the keys on the one side and know which little black buttons to push on the other while maintaining an adequate supply of squeeze in the middle. It could be that nobody has ever mastered that amount of

(a)coordination and what we hear is a kind of rough beginnings of an evolutionary noise that will finally make music that will capture the imaginations of our children centuries and centuries from now. This is one point that evolutionists and creationists must agree on. There are few other explanations.

Fuzzy-creationism therefore cannot be "intellegent design"

However, perhaps we could enlist those who have "theatres of the mind" to have the performances of the aforesaid instruments so that we could isolate the sound of one hand clapping while the other hand pat it's owners back and thereby witness the "Sounds of Silence".

Is there a difference between avowed accordion players, bagpipers and those that play dueling banjos and those who are "normal" with just this one proclivity? Is it inhertited or is it learned and can it be changed or stopped?....I wonder?
