Poll - Men's preferences for gifts

In another forum, there is a thread about gifts. My contention is that men prefer gifts that are useful rather than decorative.

I'd like to see how others think.

Let's ignore the cost issue and how the money may be better spent.

Oh yeah, ladies please refrain from skewing the results by indicating your preferences. We can do another poll to see what women want (hey, that sounds like an idea for a movie).

NJ -- do you maybe have half of an amulet that was supposed to have been left with you by your 'real' mother? I'm curious to know if your half matches with mine....

We're right there on the bottle of Scotch, as long as it's a nice single malt. Macallen is always an appropriate gift.

FOG, you survey is fatally flawed having left power tools off the list.

Power tools? Like the Binford 8587 Belt Sander with ducted exhaust, auto belt tensioning, and self adjusting traking? Urh,urh, urh!

Actually, the omission was by intent. Power tools aren't a common gift of appreciation. Although if someone gave me the Binford 6447SP Self Powered Impact Wrench capable of generating 150 ft-lbs of torque, I'd be very appreciative.

I contend that for women, decorative is useful. For most men, decorative is not useful. For myself, although I checked the "useful item" box, from the boys, I do prefer a plaque or momento type gift if it is not too commercial. My den gave me a plaque with a thanks that listed all of the boys names. I'll treasure it always.(This message has been edited by acco40)
