Pack212Scouter
I just signed up for Woodbadge. I an Asst Cubmaster for our Pack, in line to be Cubmaster in another 1 1/2 years. Our Cubmaster and I are both going. I know what Woodbadge is, but just what should I expect and what should I plan on needing?
purcelce
You will be getting some info soon about what needing to bring along. Things that you will need: 1. Open mind 2. Sense of humor check out woodbadge.org it has some pretty good info. Cary P C-39-06 Bobwhite
John-in-KC
Depending on where you are, the first weekend will probably be in Council-supplied summer camp tentage/cots. Bring weather-appropriate gear, and whatever is needed to make your cot comfortable! Our Course Director sent us a packing list...

eagle-pete
Pack212Scouter Welcome and Congratz! Of course, since you are familiar with Wood Badge you should know that you will be experiencing a week like no other you''ve ever been to. Ok, as far as what to expect... Don''t be too eager to prepare too much. You will receive a packet in the mail from your Course Director with some instructions, a list of items to bring, a few forms to fill out, etc. Just take care of all of that when it arrives. Beyond that, there isn''t really that much to do. You may receive a plethora of advise and information either from this forum and/or from people you know, all with good intentions, who want to prepare you for Wood Badge. Try not to be too concerned with it all. Try to go to Wood Badge with as few preconceived ideas as possible. Don''t let anyone taint your perceptions. Go to Wood Badge with an open mind, ready to learn, and ready to take it all in. You may have already heard about the Wood Badge ticket. Don''t be too concerned with that. It is part of the experience and you will have plenty of help with it on the course. My best advise would be to just go. There really isn''t anything I can tell you that will make your experience "better". However, I will say that you will only be a Wood Badge participant once in your life. Savor the experience. What you put into it is what you will get out of it. Have a great course. Let us know how it turned out when you get back. Eagle Pete
John-in-KC
OH!!!! One important thing: Depending on age, if your BSA Class II/III Physical is not current, get thee to a physician before Weekend 1. (Class II: Under 40, 3 years duration) (Class III: 40 and up, 1 year duration)
Its Me
I think the ideal time to take Wood badge is as a Cub. I did.
theysawyoucomin'
I took WB after being a denleader for 2 years. You''ll do really good in the Scout Jeopardy game. Bring and open mind, a flashlight, and knee socks. Learn the Scout oath and law. Cub leaders will need to know that and I barely remembered it from youth. Have fun. Pack212Scouter
Thanks for all the great advice. Our WB is over two weekends here. I am really looking forward to it. It is still nearly a year out, but I know that time will fly. We had to register early because apparently it fills up fast!

eolesen
Glad to hear it is a two-weekend class. Our council does a week-long class, which is next to impossible for me, so I wound up taking it out of council and didn''t regret that one bit. Even better, they offered a Thu/Fri/Sat class so that I didn''t have to sacrifice a lot of family time in the process. Bring what they tell you to bring, and have an open mind. Aside from doing a self-assessment before you go, try not to think too much about your ticket before you get there.
John-in-KC
If anything, don''t think about the "ticket," let the staff introduce you to the concept...
Pack212Scouter
I was just told today that one of the prerequisites for WB is an outdoor leader training. That BALOO does not apply. Is this true?
eolesen
I don''t believe BALOO is required for any of the Cub positions. Here''s the required training list that I received a few years back... All Leaders: New Leader Essentials Leader Specific Training for your current position (one of the following): Den Leader Pack Committee Cubmaster Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster Troop Committee Challenge Varsity Leader Specific Training Venturing Leader Specific Training District Committee Training Workshop Commissioner Basic Training Scoutmasters/Varsity Coaches (incl. assistants): Outdoor Leadership Skills(This message has been edited by eolesen)
