A Round of the Gilwell Song....

Recommended Posts

As a recent graduate of Gilwell phase I (26 Oct 08) I can definately say I will be working my ticket if I can.

I used to be an Owl,

A good old Owl too,

But now I'm finished Owl-ing,

I don't know what to do.

I'm growing old and feeble,

and I can Owl no more,

So I'm going to work my ticket if I can.

Back to Gilwell happy land, (WHOO-WHOO)

I'm going to work my ticket if I can.

I agree that we need to maintain Wood Badge order going back about six posts, to when an Eagle flew in after a Buffalo (silly Eagle, you'll go after the Bobwhites, you'll never get a good grip on the Buffalo, let alone lift it in the air). Of course, leaving room for patrols like the Ravens - is anyone else surprised to see a Raven patrol in 2008 - after the Antelopes. And understanding that on rare occasions no one from a patrol may be there to represent, so after proper pauses, you move on.

However, as John-in-KC's post came after three Owls in a row, I'd like to point out something about this thread.

As someone who has waited and waited for his patrol to come back up only to have someone else jump in before he can post, sometimes by people who have already done several rounds on the list, I personally think that if your patrol is still up (in other words the next patrol has not begun singing) it is fine to chime in with your fellow patrol mates. That will maintain Wood Badge order, but not exclude as many people.

Congratulations Rick, keep working your ticket.

Karl

An Owl who will, out of deference, wait his turn, but really appreciates the enthusiastic nature of his fellow Owls.

I volunteer at a Scout museum locally. I was looking at a collection from a deceased Scouter who took WB at Course 802-6, Jerome McCall, Camp Chief. This was the "old" course before the "new" course that is now the "old" course.

Included was a copy of the Song. The Beavers were "beaving" and could "beave no more."

Makes me wonder what other changes have taken place over the decades, besides stand up/don't stand up.

So has anyone ever known a Wolf?

I was a Raven when I was a youth. I guess ravens grow up to be Beavers...

I still am a Beaver

And a mean old Beaver too.

I've eaten me an eagle, a fox and bobwhite stew

I'm gettin' rather hungry,

And I don't know what to do.

So I'm goin' to catch a staffer if I can.

Back to dinner, flyin' pan,

I'm goin' to eat a staffer if I can!

(going back to waiting for Beavers to come round again)

I used to be Bruce Tuckman and a corporate raider too.

Now I've destroyed "Real" Patrols I know just what to do.

I'll form and storm more outdoor skills just to follow through.

Back to Gilwell. Parking lot.

The Staffers call it Wood Badge but it's not.

Is there some secret meaning hidden in spelling 'feeble' incorrectly?
