Stone soup at pack campout

Any of you familiar with the story "Stone Soup" ?

I'm planning on doing this as an aside to our dinner at our pack campout next month

. Every scout or family bring one item to toss in the soup. We'll use 2 or 3 pots depending on what is brought since you don't want to mix some things with others.

 

Anyways, I thought it would be a great theme since it is about joining together, cooperation and teamwork and being thrifty while accomplishing great things!

We've done a similar soup on a campout. It became more of a casserole because of the amount of noodles brought but the boys had fun with it.

 

One word of caution -- assign each den a theme item, such as tigers root vegetable, wolves non-root veggies, bears meat or protein (like beans), and Webelos grains and starch. Otherwise, you may end up with a lot of carrots, or like us, noodles and nothing else!

Great idea! I've thought about doing that but haven't yet. Let us know how it turns out. Might be on the menu next camp out.

We call it the Hobo dinner and we hold it in place of our October pack meeting. We hold it at a local park and we have our bobcat paining ceremony at the same time.

Wow momof2cubs, that's a hardcore pack! I thought paining ceremonies were reserved for Navy Seals and the like... ;-)
