Scouting4Ever
June, July and August are just around the corner. What are your ideas for your Pack as they work toward the National Pack Summertime Award? In June, we will be completing the Bicycle Belt Loop and Pin at the local lake. In July we will complete the Swimming Belt Loop and Pin as well as have a Raingutter Regatta. We will pre-make all the boats and paint them the same color. The Scouts and siblings get to decorate them in any manner that they want 15 minutes before the race. It is all for fun, no trophies or heats, they just pick who they want to race and everyone is getting a patch. In August, we will have a Pack picnic and the Scouts will earn the Map and Compass Belt Loop. Maybe throw in some water bottle rockets? What will your Pack be doing this summer? Scoutfish
Used to, our pack would get out a slip and slide and let the kids run around in it ( yawn). Or they wlould get out a sprinkler and let the kids run around in it ( double ywan). Last year, I asked to take over in the planning as the new CM For the first activity, we had a fishing trip/ cookout at a local sound park/pier. WE awarded ribbons for first catch, biggest catch, biggest variety, feed the most fish, most improved cast, first to get attacked by their bait, etc... just funny and hokey awards too. Second activity was going to Moores Creek National Battlefiled, which gae they plenty of room to run and burn off energy, but they also had a guided tour, got to hold period toys, and scale replicas of period firearms .We cooked hotdogs afterwards. THird trip was to the battleship USS North Carolina BB-55. Military stuff kids can climb on? Can't ever go wrong there! THIS YEAR: Our fisrt activity is going to be going to a paid ( maybe AAA? ) league baseball game. The boys are gonna lead the opening ceremony and there are fireworks afterward. All scouts in uniform get in free - everybody else is half price. SEwcond activity will be either bowling or another fishing tourny. Wicher one we do, we will do the other the next time. Thinking we might hold bowling i August due to our awesome humidity here in NC!
