Raingutter Regatta-Time Frame

Our Pack has never held a Raingutter Regatta but the Leaders and myself (CM) would like to give it a go this year. Due to several other things going on, the only date I can fit it in is 3 weeks (to the day) after our FIRST Pack meeting of the season. Is this too short of a time frame? We have alot of "veteran" Scouts but we'll also have right many newbies.

Any thoughts?

Go for it.

One den meeting should be enough to quickly assemble and decorate the boats maybe along with some fishish up work at home.

Suggestions: Use vinyl gutters and make sure your base is ral stable and level.

Take a shop vac along for cleanup if you're doing it indoors.

Be sure the rules are clear that all boats must have traditional sail and mast

Glue the sail to the mast and the hull, otherwise it will spin.

McDonald's straws are great for blowing. THey are larger in diameter and very strong.

Check the water depth to make sure keels don't drag.

Have fun!

RGRs are very easy to put-together. We met on Saturday morning and had all the boys make their boats (including painting them). We sat them to dry while the boys played some super-fun water games outside. After a snack break, the boats were dry and ready to race. We were completely done by lunch and had a great time.
