ScoutMomAng
Hi all! It's been awhile since I've been here but I like to come back when I need help because you all are a ton of knowledge. My WeBeLoS are working on their Showman Activity Pin and for the Pack meeting we have the song! The boys love the song Oh Tom the Toad and it's many verses with all the other animals involved. I found these awesome puppet kits that they are going to do the song with. I have a verse for every animal except for the Lion. For those of you who may not know the song it goes like this (and is sung in the tune of Oh Christmas Tree): Oh Tom the Toad, Oh Tom the Toad Why are you lying in the road? Oh Tom the Toad, Oh Tom the Toad Why are you lying in the road? You did not see that car ahead And you were flattened by the tread. Oh Tom the Toad, Oh Tom the Toad Why are you lying in the road? Oh, Kitty Cat, Oh, Kitty Cat Why does your tongue hang out like that? Oh, Kitty Cat, Oh, Kitty Cat Why does your tongue hang out like that? You running from the mutts, Then that truck spread out your guts. Oh, Kitty Cat, Oh, Kitty Cat Why does your tongue hang out like that? Oh Rog the dog, Oh Rog the dog, Why did you jump on that green log? Oh Rog the dog, Oh Rog the dog, Why did you jump on that green log? You used to like to play and track. But now you are a gators snack. Oh Rog the dog, Oh Rog the dog, Why did you jump on that green log? Oh Swallow Sam, Oh Swallow Sam, What turned your body into jam? Oh Swallow Sam, Oh Swallow Sam, What turned your body into jam? In the air you'd quickly speed, An eighteen-wheeler made you bleed. Oh Swallow Sam, Oh Swallow Sam, What turned your body into jam? Oh Doggie Spot, Oh Doggie Spot, Upon the road you're such a blot. Oh Doggie Spot, Oh Doggie Spot, Upon the road you're such a blot. Out in the lane you boldly went, Now your bod's not worth a cent! Oh Doggie Spot, Oh Doggie Spot, Upon the road you're such a blot. Oh Bunny Ben, Oh Bunny Ben, Why is your body flat and thin? Oh Bunny Ben, Oh Bunny Ben, Why is your body flat and thin? Out on the road you quickly jumped, You didn't count on getting bumped. Oh Bunny Ben, Oh Bunny Ben, Why is your body flat and thin? Oh piglet Jake, Oh piglet Jake, Why do you lie out there and bake? Oh piglet Jake, Oh piglet Jake Why do you lie out there and bake? You did not see that truck go by Now you look like a butterfly. Oh piglet Jake, Oh piglet Jake Why do you lie out there and bake? Oh, Mat the cat, oh Mat the cat, Why is your tail so crooked like that? Oh, Mat the cat, oh Mat the cat, Why is your tail so crooked like that? You caught it in the vacuum machine [Eyoww!], And now you're acting awfully mean. Oh, Mat the cat, oh Mat the cat, That's why your tail is crooked like that. We made up the verse for the piglet but we are having a very difficult time coming up with one for the Lion. Can you help? Thanks YIS Angela
IM_Kathy
I couldn't find any with Lion in them, but I did find these 2 that had a couple of verses you didn't have so thought I'd pass them along. http://www.boyscouttrail.com/content/song/tom_the_toad-248.asp http://www.bsatroop780.org/entertainment/song_t.html
ScoutMomAng
Kathy, Thanks. I have seen all the web sites with the song on it. I have all the verses that are out there. I only have 8 boys and 8 puppets, so the verses I listed are the verses we will be doing. The verse for the Lion will have to be made up and I'm hoping somebody out there has music or singing ability that can make that verse up for me. I have been told all my life that I cannot carry a tune in a bucket soooooo, I don't attempt things like that and it is VERY hard for me to teach the boys songs if I can't grasp the tune easily. Thanks, I appreciate your help.
ScoutNut
Oh Leo Lion, Oh Leo Lion Why are you lying there and cryin'? Oh Leo Lion, Oh Leo Lion Why are you lying there and cryin'? In the brush you missed the guy Who had the gun up to his eye. Oh Leo Lion, Oh Leo Lion Why are you lying there and cryin'?
ScoutMomAng
ScoutNut! I like that! I was trying something this morning but couldn't come up with the 5th and 6th lines! This is what I had: Oh Leo Lion, Oh Leo Lion, Why did you escape from the zoo? Oh Leo Lion, Oh Leo Lion, Why did you escape from the zoo? ... that is where I got stuck! AlFansome
How's this... Oh Leo Lion, Oh Leo Lion, Why did you escape from the zoo? Oh Leo Lion, Oh Leo Lion, Why did you escape from the zoo? You had fun as you travelled far Then got squashed under a car. Oh Leo Lion, Oh Leo Lion, Why did you escape from the zoo?
ScoutMomAng
Both verses are good! I will take them both back to the boys and let them decide which one they like the best! Thanks! I knew you could help! Angela
SSScout
("Darling we are growing older") While the bell tower peeled potatoes, Lard was rendered by the choir. While the clairon rang the dish rag, Someone set the church a-fire! "Holy Smoke" the preacher shouted, In the rush he lost his hair, Now his head reembles heaven, "For there is no parting there!" mikecummings157
Oh, Fred the fish, oh Fred the fish. Why are you lying on the dish? Oh Fred the fish, oh Fred the fish. Why are you lying on the dish? You did not see the hook ahead, And now your head is stuffed with bread. Oh, Fred the fish, oh Fred the fish. Why are you lying on the dish? pavilm
There are tons of lyrics just for the Toad, we did it at Jungle Book training for Leaders. I will try and write them down from the video I took. It's more effective when you keep the song to the toad.

The point is, we made puppets for our SHOWMAN activity pin. I wanted lyrics to go with the puppets. The song works either way, just the toad, or other animals. The boys like the other animals...it gives them the chance to try to write their own lyrics which goes along with the Showman activity pin. Now that they have words for each of their puppets, they can put in new words to write their own lyrics. By the way, I have seen all the lyrics for Tom the Toad with just the toad and all the lyrics for all the other animals. There just was not any for a lion.
